    Life

I liek the way it looks like both a fingerprint and a microscope shot of plant cells. Both represent "Life". Neither the darkness nor the blur bother me. Intriguing.
  1. I echo the comments of the others here: great image with a strong mood. Clever use of texture, rather than just showing texture.

It is freaky and shroud-like and it even seems that the face is shouting to be let out (making matters much worse!).

I hope PT will share the techincal details.

  2. From the title and the linear textures in background, I'm assuming that those represent hot air - so an other texture in addition to the metal grid of the fan cover. The colours work well in evoking a torrid atmosphere.

I find the composition well balanced as it is (the heavier fan centre balances the wider background area top). My only suggestion would be to switch the fan on (both for aesthetics and comfort!).

The idea to include textures in air is a very good one PT (hope I've understood right). I like the result.

I love the softness in this, despite the fact that the sun looks rather strong. I also like the way the frail bush is connected to such a massive pot.

The colours, and the composition are excellent IMO.

Two small details could be improved: a slightly lower viewpoint might have hidden the buildings just visible in the centre and also I think it might have been better without the round object just visible on the centre right.

The shadow adds in an important way and I also like the way the two edges are framed by the walls.

  3. Great colours. textures and composition together with a sense of being close to the action at the foot of the glacier. All in all : very well done.

PS forgot to say good timing too, with the raised foot and pole.

More glacier and slightly less rock might have worked well too, but the feeling of being overlooked by the glacier is strong here too.

    Spotty PT

Sorry PT the comment I wrote was thinking that this shot was up for the Texture assignment. It does make more sense now as the shadow is litteraly on the spot(s). Still, would like it bigger and playing a more important role in the composition.

Two assignments in one shot! good going PT.

Well, the spotty texture is certainly clearly visible. But for me the shadow of the person (PT?) needs to link in more with the texture somehow - so as to not look like an "accident". Perhaps leaning or seeming to lean on the diagonal ? As it is we dont get much of a link between the two. Maybe it's just the size of the shadow that doesnt work for me... either too big or too small.

The v shaped pattern of the background leaves is good as well as sharpness and colour (and lightin). I just wish there was a bit more space at the bottom.

the thumbnail looked nice especially composition and pastel colours, but then on viewing larger sharpness seems a problem - pity because that's an interesting bird with bright red markings
  4. Have you tried to get rid of the blue cast in the background? Justask, if you need help to do that in Photoshop. A whiter bkg would give more punch - to this already punchy idea and colours.

I like the way the textures of the paint lead the eye dramatically in, but I find the black zone uninteresting. Perhaps (depending on what's outside) to include more or the outside and have the strong line as more of a diagonal - then go for B&W (for me that would equalise the outside with the frame more and everything would hold together better). just some ideas

I like it more for having the plane there - definitely a plus.

Question about the state of the world: how long can you look at the sky without seeing a plane ? Where have all the birds gone ...

I'm quite happy with the theme fit (it's OK to disagree!), perhaps definition No 5) quality given to a piece of art .. by the interrelationship of its elements ? I see a visual texture - sort of like an illusion of a real texture.

I think you could go even further in the manipulation of the photo to bring out more of the yellowish green. With textures like this "excessive" sharpening can work surprisingly well too.

Reminds me of my garden wall ... at least five years overdue for repainting but so much more interesting that a uniform surface. Thanks Stephane for the earth map connection, I like that idea.

Ditto to Seven's comment about number of items.

Might look nice too if one of the slippers was just about to fall ?

Great textures in the upper half of the photo - less so in the lower half.

    Could also darken the shadows.

  5. I'm impressed with the shot which I took to be manipulated at first glance.

Onyo's reworked version is an impovement (not to say the original was not good - and the motion blur is very good (adding a fresh meaning to the word texture)).

I like the way the eye is caught going round and round like a tornado.

Now I think I must buy a new camera ... (cant believe 1/4 sec).

But PT please dont reveal too much about gear or location - we need to remain anonymous.

  6. I'm not sure why its the wrong spot - seems quite right to me ... Whatever, right or wrong it's a good theme fit.

To get a shot like this requires a solid dose of patience. The composition is good with the critter and leaf nicely filling the frame (no complaints from me to "get closer" for this shot!). Nice details in the eyes.

Just a pity about the bright zone in the background.

  7. Congrats PT on such a nice shot. The subject is interesting and the execution (composition, lighting and tones) brings out the textures extremely well.

I love the tiny strands of rope that stand out against the darker shadow zone. Great combination of straight lines and curves in a very pleasing composition.

For me the "central" point in the image is where the curved structure at the back meets the roped curve, and so it might be better to have that area the sharpest in the whole image, but really it's only on looking at it intentely and analysing it that I come the that conclusion (ie a nitpick). It certainly doesnt spoil my enjoyment of the photo.

Soft delicate feel, even if the tree was a scratchy one - so you have succeeded in creating your own mood and texture PT. Very nicely done. It looks almost like rain on a hot day.

I like the colours of the original but might consider darkening the bottom edge a tiny bit.

Would you be prepared to share technical details ?
