  1. I assume that those of us in Canada who had subscriptions to the

Hasselbald Forum through the now defunct Lisle Kelco will have to

find a new source. Does anyone know if there is a new supplier in

Canada for Hasselblad? Any chance our subscriptions will be honoured

by Hasselblad? Can anyone offer any advice as to how to get back on

    track including any back issues?

  2. Bill. I had a similar posting about a week back concerning developer and ready loads. I have been using Xtol but it is so fine grained it is difficult focusing under the enlarger. I have been revisiting both Rodinal and HC110. The latter offer a bit of grain to focus on. Its not clear to me yet which one I will continue with, but I do like Ready Loads and since Tmax is the only game in town - and I don't think it's a bad one - the final decision is developer and I would be interested in knowing what you ulitmately decide.
  3. I had a chance to use Kodak Tmax 100 Ready Loads on a recent trip to

Hocking Hills in Ohio. While Tmax 100 is not my normal LF film,

(Tmax 400 is)I liked the convenience of Ready Loads and now plan to

use them on an up coming trip to Nova Scotia. My problem is this. I

normally use Xtol and I find that I really can't focus on the grain

of the Tmax 100 / Xtol combination. The fine grain also seems to

contribute to a lack of apparent edge sharpness. Can anyone

recommend another developer that would still give times in the 9

minute range (Xtol 1:1) so that I would still have a decent time for

minus development? Is there any down side to Rodinal? HC110 times

seem a little too short? Any thoughts or suggestions?

  4. I have had a similar problem in the past with both Plus X and FP4 in Xtol. I've used Xtol a lot and I like it. But I sense that you have to be more careful with both agitation and making sure that to rap the tank initially either with the presoak if you use one or after pouring in the developer. This is all assuming that your problem is air bells which is the problem I had. I'm blaming the Xtol as I never had the problem with HC110 that I used for years prior to switching.
  5. I'm looking for advice or opinions on the advantages of using

Linhof's 4x5 Super Screen and overlay in my Technika versus the

current standard screen and fresnel. An earlier posting regarding

their use in the reflex finder suggested a significant improvement

in brightness. Purchased together, it seems that they are slightly

less expensive than the standard issue. If they are cheaper and

better, why aren't they the standard?

  6. In my opinion the image will be decidedly inferior to viewing directly on the ground glass even with the fresnel. It's less convenient also. Mine came the the camera as part of the package but it's not something that I would pay a lot of money for.
  7. Is a Linhof Technika V view camera ser #2812165 a rare item? Any

idea of value? It seems like a nice thing to have as the lens boards

from my Super Technika V will fit as well as the reflex viewer, etc.

I didn't know such a thing existed until I saw one for sale on Ebay

  8. I'll second Matthew's suggestion to try a table top tripod. I have recently travelled to Europe using a Manfrotto table top which is available as a kit with a belt holster, ball top and extension arm. I use a 503cx and have taken some great photographs of cathedral interiors with this combination. I don't like carrying a lot of 'stuff' and this works for me.
  9. A camera store in Canada has a used 75mm f8 Schneider Super Angulon

in a Linhof lens board for sale. It appears to be in excellent

condition. They are asking $1195.00 CAN for it. Any comments on what

this lens should be worth? I understand that this lens can be used

with a Super Technika V without the use of the supplementary

    focusing accessory. Comments?

  10. I am Canadian who has been using products from Light Impressions for

about 20 years. Of late, they now have a US$250.00 minimum

international order and they will no longer use surface post. On my

most recent order which amounted to US$298.00, the shipping and

brokerage fee was about US$98.00 which adds about a third of the

cost to the order. Obviously any taxes or duties are extra. In the

past, shipping was minimal - presumably because they were in

Rochester instead of California - and the Canadian Postal Service

charged a flat CAN$5.00 for brokerage. It is becoming very expensive

to use their products and I was wondering if there was an

alternative supplier. My biggest concern are the Trueguard albums

and clamshell storage boxes which I have used over the years. I live

in Windsor, Ontario which is about 3 minutes south of Detroit.

  11. My local suppliers don't stock Xtol either. They simply order me the minimum quantity which is 20 5-litre packs. It works for me and doesn't cause them any hardship. I do try and buy locally. It's a kind of use it or lose it thinking. Increasingly, I find myself having to order more and more of the particular materials that I use. As long as they continue to be willing to order them for me, I'm fine with it. I just have to plan ahead a little.
  12. Xtol is an excellent developer. I am one of the authors of previous threads regarding 'The Trouble with Xtol'. Kodak provided me with 30 1 litre replacement packages of developer and I have just purchased a case of the 5 litre packages. I have not had a single problem with any of them and my confidence has been restored.
  13. Howard - I have routinely used TMY rated at EI250 and developed in Xtol 1:1 for 8 1/2 min for 120 film and 10 min for sheet film. The results can be exceptional.
  14. I have a Polaroid 545 Film holder and I have recently tried using

Kodak Ready Load Tmax 100 film in it. Some times the film is exposed

and more often it is not. It seems that there is a small metal catch

that is intended to latch on to the metal strip and hold it in place

as the film cover is pulled out prior to exposure. It appears that

this is not happening consistently - at least with my holder. Kodak

literature recommends both their holder and the Polaroid 545i. They

make no mention of earlier models. Are these polaroid holders

different? Could it be something I'm not doing properly?

  15. I just did some testing a couple of weeks ago on the new 400Tmax using Xtol 1:1. The results were EI 800. I used to shoot it at 250, but I had never done any film speed tests. Developing time was 8 1/2 min at 68. I haven't shot any since and I still don't know what to think of the results. I will be sorting it out soon.
