i do not mind the brown wall, it adds a little i think by darkening that area, drawing more attention to her face as i think it should. i like the composition and colors as well, wish i could see a little more of her eyes.

very nice, would also enjoy seeing it from different angles.

very nice colors and expression, suggest a tighter, off center crop of his face.

there are less on this site posting documentary than a couple of years ago imho.

yes, excellent tones, interesting composition, the clouds create a weighty mood, and in a funny way balance for his beard. attractive piece of work.

its a dying art around here, these sorts of documentary shots; don't you know, i've been looking for one for about ten minutes and it would be yours! a clever placement of the boats, a pleasing tone, makes this worthwhile. thanks for sharing it.
-
if you go black and white you can play more with the different tones. consider this effort, just to give you some ideas.

hi kathy, howard dion has done a lot of high key work that's worth looking at, if you haven't already.

wow, impressive effect! i find it helpful sometimes to control and manipulate the lightness and brightness within a picture by using layer masks in photoshop. if you have it, i wrote up what i do in a photo once, there's a link to it from my community member page if you are interested.

well, you may not find it improved, as it creates a square format and does cut off her shoulder, but this is what i had in mind. i also added some unsharp mask to their faces and bodies.

Thanks Tibor, exactly what i was thinking.

very entertaining perspective, appealing light and mood to it.

i agree, great story, a really fine composition. there's an attractive balance here, with the elephants on one side, the rise behind them heading up on the other side, and of course the zebra there as well. for my taste, I would have liked to see the zebra in focus as well, as an important part of the story, but I realize it may not have been possible given the available light. an interesting, well done photo.

can see the pressure, but the context is not clear visually. if there were a player nearby, it would help.
-
great light, attractive use of smoke to isolate him, with a peek of spectators that shows this is an event -- very nice job.
-
agreed, the determination comes through loud and clear, nice capture. suggest dulling a little the brightest spots.

i'd like to see this in an off center crop, the expression is striking, the tones nicely done.
