i do not mind the brown wall, it adds a little i think by darkening that area, drawing more attention to her face as i think it should. i like the composition and colors as well, wish i could see a little more of her eyes.

Thanks David for sharing so much about the photo. It is fun and striking. For what its worth, I love the symmetry, question of taste I suppose. Funny how you can just find something like this on your way to something else, sort of like life sometimes, huh?

very pretty rendering of a pretty woman, i'd suggest a tighter crop, with her off center as you have her. like to get in closer to her face. perhaps just head and shoulders?
  1. its a dying art around here, these sorts of documentary shots; don't you know, i've been looking for one for about ten minutes and it would be yours! a clever placement of the boats, a pleasing tone, makes this worthwhile. thanks for sharing it.

an interesting, in your face perspective of an attractive middle aged guy, with a good use of the wall for a background, but i'd like to see his eyes better.

good exposure, light, pose, like the crop too. the wording on the t shirt distracts a little, nose seems a little, what, photoshopped?, but this is nicely done.

wow, impressive effect! i find it helpful sometimes to control and manipulate the lightness and brightness within a picture by using layer masks in photoshop. if you have it, i wrote up what i do in a photo once, there's a link to it from my community member page if you are interested.
  2. well, you may not find it improved, as it creates a square format and does cut off her shoulder, but this is what i had in mind. i also added some unsharp mask to their faces and bodies.

i agree, great story, a really fine composition. there's an attractive balance here, with the elephants on one side, the rise behind them heading up on the other side, and of course the zebra there as well. for my taste, I would have liked to see the zebra in focus as well, as an important part of the story, but I realize it may not have been possible given the available light. an interesting, well done photo.
