I have the following books, which I picked up from local store :<br> <br />1) The essential darkroom book by Tom Grill and Mark Scanton <br> <br> 2) Darkroom Basics and Beyond by Roger Hicks and Frances Schultz</p> <p> I stumbled upon </p> <p>a) Film Developing Cookbook by Steve Anchell .<br> This seems to deal more with processing and chemicals. ( I just read a few pages from amazon site - look inside option ) </p> <p> b) Darkroom Cookbook by Steve Anchell</p> <p> A) I was wondering if b) might add to 1) and 2) and provide more information in detail. <br> <br> I would appreciate your feedback and comments on the above two books.</p> <p> B) What are your thoughts on The Photographer's Toning Book: The Definitive Guide by Tim Rudman ?</p> <p> Thanks all . wish you merry xmas in advance</p> <p> </p>

I am trying to understand about medium format photography - differences , advantages, equipment . I might look at shooting pictures with medium format equipment. <p>Hi,<br> I shoot with film and have my color negatives, positives scanned at 4000 ~ 5000 ppi on Nikon coolscan V at a lab.<br> <br />He writes them to dvd in form of tiff images ( of size 65 MB approximately) . The total size on dvd - 16x maybe above 4 GB.<br> When I load the dvd into my laptop, it goes on spinning and I do not see even file names in explorer. I may have upgraded service pack for OS.<br> It was very slow earlier. It seems worse now. I would like to atleast copy files to my machine and then convert to jpeg to send to friends.</p> <p>I have a laptop with 3GB Ram, intel core 2 duo - around 2 GHz speed and 32 bit version of windows vista home premium. </p> <p>I have also tried on a Mac desktop with approx 4 GB ram and i3 processor and it still feels slow.</p> <p>Any suggestions on this ? <p>Hi,<br> The spots could be due to the lab. I have had similar experience with a few labs in chennai and I realised that their chemicals were probably old.<br> <br />On film, there is an e-bay seller from thailand, who might ship to your place. There is also a seller in mumbai, but I am not sure if he ships outside India.</p>

<p>Hi, what's the relative humidity that you get at your place ? I am in coastal region in India , where the RH is above 75- 80%. I use, what is known as a dry cabinet, which provides a controlled humidity environment for camera equipment.</p>

<p>Hi,<br> I am looking for a suggestion for film leader retriever for 35mm film. My camera got drenched in rain and I also got a few drops of water on leader while loading new roll in film.<br> <br />I took some important shots with the film and the number kept changing to frame 1 and I had to rewind it. The camera is an Elan 7e ( Eos 30 ). <p>where is this lab? I came across a person who prints cibachromes in France. His name was mentioned in traditional film photography facebook group. I am not sure if he still does.</p>

<p>Thanks for the responses. I did not expect so many responses- some humorous . I saw the pdf file - the filter holder , extension tubes , closeup tube information was useful.<br> <br />The rest is quite common for Canon EF lens. On paper manual vs CD , I have a book that is more than 80 yrs old , which is still in good condition. I had to throw some of my audio cd aways within a year or two due to fungus. High humidity with tropical weather is a factor.<br> <br />Anyways, doesn't look like much to miss from the manual. thanks for the link</p>

<p>Hi, I purchased a canon EOS 17-40 EF USM lens manual. The box had manual on CD .<br> <br />Has Canon stopped including printed manuals with lenses? I find printed copies more useful: easier to read on photo trip, and also more durable than CDs ( I live in a place near the sea and Relative Humidity is generally above 70 -80 % ).</p> <p>Where can I get a printed manual for the lens?</p> <p>Thanks in advance.</p>

I was under the impression that it is no longer available.<br> <br />Two weeks back, I came across a post in Traditional film photography facebook group that there were a few people in France, who still print it.<br> Is Cibachrome really gone? <p>Hi,<br> The lab that I printed my negatives at, stopped printing from negatives. I am trying to find another lab to do my work. <br> <br />In my search, I got some glossy and matt finish prints done at a lab. The matt finish prints don't seem so sharp. <br> Lab guy did say he was scanning them at 300 dpi and printing. Is there a huge difference in sharpness between Matt and Glossy? <br> Its been a while since I printed Matt. My old lab offered only glossy in large size prints.</p> <p>Thanks in advance</p>

<p>Hi,<br> I am posting for a friend with a Nikon Coolscan LS 4000 . The nikon service center in India has said that the firewire port is not working and that the firewire controller board has conked out. They do not have a spare anywhere in Nikon inventory (not sure of outside India).</p> <p>Any suggestions ?</p> <p>Thanks in advance.</p>
