Alec, seems you woke up in the wrong mood today.
The M5 John bought has the 28 and 75 masks installed, so the camera can handle the same lenses as an M6.
-
Good to hear it worked out John.
Have fun with it!

Roger,

I'd like to have the PS possibilities demonstrated at the pic of my father that I posted a few threads down (what good's a 90).
Please feel free to use it if you have the time and if you'd like to.

Thomas, I think it is a 1955 Leica IIIF. In good condition it sells for app. US$300.
-
John,

I came across a very nice M5 that is for sale in the Netherlands.
Serial number is 1377161, it is a three lug and the seller claims it
is in excellent condition.
The add also says that the Dutch Leica importer (Odin) installed the
28 and 75mm frame lines into this one. If you are interested I can
give you the e-mail address of the seller and you can contact him
directly. He is asking 950 euro (app. 1050 US$).

Jay, you must have a large camera bag!...:-)
I agree with you on the fact of resale value, but suppose you can have a mint Mamiya 7 with 80/4.0 lens, tripod etc for US$ 1300?
-
This is the Leica forum, so everyone here made a choice. Obviously
you chose Leica...so did I.
But some of us certainly use other types of camera's beside the
Leica, and I know that the Mamiya 7 is popular among Leica users.
Supppose you have no camera, would you again choose for the Leica or
would a medium format rangefinder finds its place in your bag?
Please explain your rationale?
Let me share my considerations with you...I love the small size of
the M system and its capability for candids and street photography.
The lenses are diamonds and they are FAST. I am impressed by the
built quality...there is little to nothing that beats a Leica for me.
Yet...I am tempted by the Mamiya 7 system. It pretty much works like
a Leica M, of course it is bigger. The lenses are (much)
slower...BUT...the size of the negative is approximately 4.5 larger
than the 35mm format.
I am not telling you anything new of course. But I would really like
to have your thoughts on this one.
Thanks.

I'd like to draw your attention to this thread in the archived forum.
Photo.net is having a mini "subscription drive" and we'd like to ask
everyone to consider becoming a Patron.
Note that this afternoon some new hardware is being installed, so
there may be a brief "outage", but hopefully when it comes back, the
site performance will be better with less delays at peak usage times.
The Leica Forum is "doing its bit" to help as are other forums, so
think about joining in and becoming a PATRON

Dave, I fully agree with you. This is a wonderful website and I found alot of help from the members. Sometimes moderating seems to be a bit exaggerated, but overall it is a great site indeed.

Hello forum,
Does anyone use the Canon 55mm f/1.2 SSC lens? I would like to know
your opinion about this lens wrt sharpness, contrast and overall
performance (especially wide open).
Thanks.

I'm with Patrick.

Titanium isn't like gold as it doesn't get mixed with other metals and therefore only comes in one colour: titanium. As the lenses and camera's are coated with a *thin* layer of titanium, and certainly not titanium painted (maybe a good idea for the next commemorative: black paint body with titanium paint top?..:-)) there can't be any difference in colour.

I am with Charles here. The MX is a nice camera with first class optics available at a very reasonable price.

I found a usefull link for downloading manuals after searching for a
IIIF copy (yes, I bought one from Todd).
The downloadable copy consists of JPEG pictures which makes it a bit
of a pain to download and print, but, as we say in Holland, "never
look into the mouth of a given horse".
Have a look <a

Happy Easter.

Imagine all the "special edition" camera's that will become available to collectors!

You asked your question in the wrong forum!...:-)
Most people here use a rangefinder type of camera, the M line in Leica terms. There are certain advantages over this type camera compared to SLR type of camera's, like being less intrusive when photographing people and the ability to shoot with relatively long exposure times as there is no mirror vibration. Or the size/weight of the equipment. Just to name a few.
I think the major brands share equal quality, both in design and in photographic results. A Leica is relatively expensive because the production number is low and the price for labour high. I don't think the price can be justified by the pictures...but I'll get flamed for that one.
But it is very nice to have a full mechanical, built like a tank, piece of equipment that also looks great.
-
No, most people use their right eye.
-
Marc, to the best of my knowledge it was the thin Elmarit 90mm. But I took this shot some time ago, I am not 100% sure...

this time with the picture...

boiling...

Very nice example Andy, thanks for sharing it!

Gerry, why do you want the forum to react on this particular photo? Is it your first?

Marc,

Does this mean that you don't charge the couple for reprints? I believe it is common practice in the Netherlands to keep the negs and charge the couple for every reprint requested.
