Purely from a compositional stand point, I think the pier in the background with distracting lights is unfortunate.   The sailboat on the still water has a tranquility that is disturbed by that pier.

  1. the composition is excellent.    But I think there are two problems that may have resulted from manipulation:

    1. dynamic range has been expanded too much.   The resulting image lacks vibrancy and contrast.   It looks like a front lit painting rather than a real photographic scene.

    2.  There is a yellowish cast to the picture.  Is heightens the impression that it is a somewhat faded print or painting.

The shiny brass plate behind the girl's head appears distracting.   The girls eyes appears to be looking at the hook like thing just over her head, but the hook is partly cut off.

    otherwise a nice picture

  2. I think the way the sun and trees on the left bisect the picture crowds the wide open expanse of the clouds and water on the right side.

I think the picture would be more evocative if you moved the sun and the edge of the tree about 1/3 of the way to the left of the picture, and give some room to the open expense on the right.

  3. The rock in the middle of Crater Lake is known as the Phantom Ship.

In some ways it is ghostly. It is the remains of another volcanic

edifice much more ancient than crater lake itself. It was buried long

before crater lake or its ancestor volcano were formed. But it was

exhumed from the depth by the volcanic cataclysm that created crater

    lake.

  4. Sun rise over a dip in the wall around Crater Lake. The dip was

called the Sun Notch. so naturally a sunrise that happen to occur

there deserves at least one picture attempt.

This photo was shot straight into the sun, using D70 and 24-120 VR.

I shot this to test the exposure latitude of D70 at ISO200 setting.

I think a good picture should have one center of focus. In this case, I think the bright water reflection and brilliant clouds both competes for attention, resulting in a distracted, if still pretty, composition.
