I was confused under what category to request critique, Fine Art,

Nature, or maybe Pets. In fact, it looks like a Portrait. Final

choice was quite trivial, and, probably wrong, Architecture. If it's

so, than my apology to Architecture lovers.

I honestly find this very funny... This is what I call good humour. As you said, it looks like a portrait. I particularly like Mr. Standpipe's binoculars... One thing I'm not too sure about is the background color. It is very striking, and that's part of the joke to some extent, but maybe I'd tone it down a little, and rather emphasize the joke by adding a golden frame or such. But it's great. The idea is really very good. Regards.

Dear photonetters, I appreciate very much your support to Mr. Standpipe by your commenting and rating. This gentleman is mature enough, but hasn't retired yet. He is 24/7 on duty. I see him every day when go to my work. If you don't mind I'll say him Hi from all supporters.

Lovely. Does it just jut out of the wall like that or have you removed anything extraneous, either by your crop or cloning? The border gives it an almost 3D effect - I almost feel I can reach in and touch the standpipe.

I sent you an email about this photo, but I got a return of "address unknown" on the email photo.net has for you. I wanted to ask if you would consider sending me a file of this pic so I can print it and hang it on my wall (with your copyright, of course)? In return I would be happy to send you a file of one of my pics (if there is one you like of course). Perhaps "A typical scene in Old Havana" as you scored it 6/6 (thankyou).

Hope to hear from you and keep snapping.

Fun! The border you added on the marble is nice, but I'm not sure I'd like it in a framed version.

Thanks for your comments and ratings.

In fact I didn't alter here anything seriously, so this portrait, if necessary, can be presented to the court. Just applied Unsharp Mask (handhold camera at 1/40 speed) and adjusted a little bit level and contrast. Of course, cropped. As Marc noticed, and he was absolutely right, the background should be lighter. That was it.

Darrell, thanks for your interest to Mr. Standpipe. It's not bad idea to exchange with images for printing. I'll try to contact you via your email or one of your pages.

It's one of those images which says, "if I saw that hydrant, I would have taken a shot of it." But your result is nevertheless superb.

incredible image, but i personally dont like the framing, the image is plenty strong enough without the addition, nice work, don't worry about trying to improve it :-)
