I think cropping out the sky a little to put the horizon at 1/3 the way down the image concentrates viewer's attention on the expanse of the snow and the form of the weeds

  1. This house lies abandoned in the hills over the abondoned gold mining

town of Bodie, California. There is still a rusting Ford model T

sitting in the garage. I attempted to overexpose the shot to give

it a harsh, glare ridden feeling that one feels when one walks under

the harsh sun in the semi-arid 7000 foot hills. Desatuated from

Velvia. Comments on this shot and any other in my folder is welcome.

Lots of macro photos attempts to completely blurr out the background. This one works well with the background only partly blurred. It make the butterfly alive and in its niche, and not like a macro specimen that might be displayed in a museum.

Looks like camera wasn't held steady during the long exposure. There is horizontal smearing of the image in addition to vertical streaking of the water in waterfall

It is more than OK. I think it's great. The fact that you washed out the background is what made it so. It results in a very concise and idealised composition. You know what composition and pose you want, and you washed out everything that is not part of that composition. So what you have left is a very effective composition with nothing to detract from it.

Excellent, one of the best pet shots I've seen on this forum. However, I might crop the lefthand side of the picture more closely. There is not much of the cat there.

You captured the moment when the essence took form. A superior photograph. Next to a photo like this most "technically outstanding" photos are mere decorations.
