Michael, first of all I like the image, period! I always find it difficult to critique another photographers work because as a viewer we know absolutely nothing about the mood you were trying to create. The lighting is truely lovely. In this situation I might have gone for a few images that feature only your subject and the soft lighting as well as this one. Congratulations to you and your model

James, I'm not sure what the issue is for all the raters so far. Your image certainly does NOT merit the low ratings. The camera is placed at an intereting angle and you carry nice detail in the shadows w/o blocking the highlights. The image is well conceived and carried out.
  1. Doug, truly a stunning shot exactly as is. You have exposed/rendered it so as to fix "the reader" strongly as our focal point. Yet, the edge of the window and couple to her rear place her in context and add much to the effect. A beautiful image that any of us would be proud to have in our portfolio.

Gordon, I like this portrait. Lighting and pose are nicely done. The expression is almost regal. The only criticism is related to her left hand. Since you see none of the left arm, the hand appears out of nowhere. Almost like someone elses hand was glued to her right forearm.

Very nicely done!! Spot on exposure to carry detail in the highlights and definitely a unique presentation in terms of cropping. Congratulations

Gorkem, I agree with the reviewer above. It is a very powerful, traditional portrait of this gentleman. Nothing wrong with tradition here!! I like portraits done against a black background where nothing is present but the sitter and the relationship of photographer to subject. Nicely done, congratulations.
  2. Martin, this would be my favorite of the group!! The scan didn't come through very well with some pixelation over her nose and left eye. However her pose, your cropping, lighting and presentation are all very nice. A lovely lady, congratulations to you both
  3. I really like this image!! Camera angle, lighting, colors..everything works I think. The fact that the logs are still in the truck bed rounds out the "atmosphere" of the image. One of the best I've seen in quite some time, congratulations!

While I agree with all the positive comments on "Serenity" I find I like this image even more. All the elements fit together to make this a powerfully evocative portrait. Well done!

James, the combination of camera angle, lens choice and lighting makes this a unique variation on a common pose. Very well done, thank you
