good point summer. i do think the video features are here to stay and this will become more regular talk in the forums, however like photography, we should be allowed to critique, and if this forum does get swamped with poor video like this, then i think it's fair to ask for another forum (for the vid guys)

i'll try and upload some crummy vid samples from my 5d2 later on this week :)

-

jamie, i'm not sure if 'ship jumper' is the correct term? right tool at the time for the job no? a camera is a camera. i can use my manual focus lenses on the 5d2, so no added expense.

durr,
i'm assuming you mean switch sides from nikon to canon? i'm in the same boat. just ordered a nikon to canon lens adaptor as well to try my nikkor class with manual f stops on the 5dmk2. from what i've seen, and in the price range, i'm sold *i think. will have my own 5d2 in a day or so and hope to not be disappointed :)

thanks guys, just ordered my 7.99 mount now :)
according to stephen gandy, mirror lock up and g lenses are the only ones not compatible. see link:

http://www.cameraquest.com/frames/4saleReos.htm

if anyone has another list of 'do not use' lenses that would be appreciated.

anyone have any bad luck with the cheap chinese nikon to canon lens mount rings found on ebay?

just got off the phone with the local camera store, they can order in a novaflex mount for 279 bucks, but the guy that i was talking to said he purchased his mount off ebay for 12 bucks and said it's worked fine for him. my plan is to use nikon mf lenses with mk2...

thanks

yes richard, a nice analogy. i'm hoping this wrench is capable of driving nails half decently. :)

again, if anyone has any raw shots...even a 3 second clip online, i'd be grateful!

thanks

hi john,
i've seen the mount, and i guess i need to clarify. i'm not asking about how the camera tilts/pans, i'm asking how the footage looks during pans. ie. are there weird artifacts or strobing...

thanks

just wondering if anyone out there in the film/tv world has had a chance to shoot anything with the 5dmk 2 and can comment on panning/tilting. any weird artifacts or strobing effects? have you tried using any 24/25p filters in post?

thanks

i'm borrowing a friends holga with a flash built into it. there is the cloudy or sunny setting. i recall these being f8 and 11.
i'm not sure though. anyway, i want to take some bare bulb flashes in a club with a colour neg film. just wondering if anyone has found a happy combination with a certain film. i'm thinking 800 iso and a shooting disctance within 5 feet on the 'cloudy' setting should do me ok.
that said, i have no idea the flash output of this thing...the charm of holga. any low light, flash holga experiences are welcome :)
thanks

When you add up the cost of these you still will come in at about half or less of the price of high quality Video cam like Red One. Considering you get FF 21MP sensor to shoot HD video, I think it is a great inexpensive alternative to more expensive HD video camera's.--- ERIC VAUGHAN

eric, have you ever tried to pull focus on 35mm motion picture camera or red one? this full frame sensor will make it next to impossible to do proper focus pulls. also, still lenses 'breath' a LOT more than cine lenses. how about smooth zooms? i guess you could adapt a gear ring to a zoom lens, and adapt a preston servo zoom system on, but that's another 10K+

yes it's a fun option to have, and for specific project, i think the video feature will work 'ok'-- but tos ay it is a 'great inexpensive alternative to more expensive HD video cameras' is a little far fetched.

time to break out my steadicam :)

i'd go take the pics until and if someone asks you to stop. i can tell you what customer service/security people will say to you if you go up and ask them first...
-
hey tim,
for your needs, all this jargon means nothing. don't worry about it :)
this is more to do with guys like me that are thinking about using the camera at a pro level and really and really stretching its capabilities.

vish are you planning to put your files through a 24/25p after effects or shake filter? i'm looking forward to seeing some footage.
best of luck

jamie....your point that the 'quality is awesome' is what paul is addressing! it's not! the lack of 3ccd is a big issue.
trust me i want this to be amazing, i have one on hold, but from the tech guys in post/editing world, i just dont think it's going to cut it.
-
ditto what jeff pointed out.
jamie r is incorrect when he writes: "It is not an exaggeration to say that it currently has about the best HD video quality in the world among consumer cameras (that includes all the so called professional HD video cameras). You would need to spend in excess of USD100,000 to get anything remotely close to its video quality (especially in low light situations)."
the red camera will blow this camera so far out of the water, your head will spin---and those can be had for 25,000. also, while i am very intrigued by the HD in this camera, i'm very disappointed in the lack of 24/25p--this is a killer for the film world. also the codec is supposedly difficult to work with though i have no first hand experience with that.
yes i think this camera has potential (if canon gets the 24/25p going) but you MUST know the limitations. still lenses are not meant to be focus pulled. there's much more breathing in the lens than with cine lenses. also, the focus marks are so close together, it's hard to do any sort of visuals other than those where the focus does not change.
-
"24/25p causes a lot of headaches for people who are unaccustomed to dealing with it. Using 30p on the 5D2 makes perfect sense to me."
i'd disagree. if it causes a headache for people 'unaccustomed', chances are they are not in the market for 1080p or full frame vid cam to begin with.
-
puppy face...please define 'real video camera'
what is intriguing about a sub $3000 camera that can do HD and full frame is that it's SUB $3000! for spec shoots or low budget music video's this is a great leap. yes the red cam is amazing, but it's cost is ten times more and that's without a lens! and if you want to spend $7000 on a sony ex1 you still are dealing with half frame sensors.
-
paul, everything i've read on the camera show the mk2 being 1080 progressive. only thing holding me back right
now is the 30 p! canon is in the video camera market, so there are WELL AWARE of 24/25P ! why the 30? very
frustrating. i'm going to do some tests with some post process 24p type filters and see how well the files hold
up...or maybe this is something to wait for canon to address with a firmware update.... *SIGH so close

i received no word that the price has changed...when i gave my deposit over the phone with henrys, i was told a price and the difference i would need to pay. are they not bound to that?
-
david,
i was at the ago on saturday...supposedly i missed the 2 hour lineup outside and just walked in through the exit door un-knowingly! found this out when a friend was meeting me there and said she had to lineup around the block!
dead pixels 'common'? (5d2)
in Canon EOS Mount
Posted

i've noticed what looks like a white pixel in the same poistion on a few photos...well any photo that has a dark area where said pixel exists. i'm new to digital photography, so i don't know if this is something that digital shooters just deal with and correct in post, or if i have a lemon.

thanks for any info.
