haha. she is actually one of my best friends and doesn't mind having the odd snap taken.
i think the other rut is that my work is so slow these days that i'm not stimulated much so i think my brain is going a bit soft. will try to force another walk with camera in the next day or two.

maybe it's the winter blahs or i'm not in the mood or i'm just plain lazy, but i've been finding it difficult to take any photographs recently. so the other day i went for a walk with a friend and forced myself to push the button a few times.
i don't think there's anything wrong with not shooting or forcing yourself to shoot. after-all it's just photography...we're not performing surgery or saving lives :)
i'm posting a few images, so feel free to add your thoughts on being in a rut or ways you may deal with it and feel free to post photos as well.

thanks guys,
so mike, by opening the RAW file and tweaking colour/contrast/curves etc in Aperture, i'm not skipping out on all that RAW has to offer by not doing anything with another program like DPP?

i'm very new to the digital photography world.

can someone recommend a trusted site/method to get one going on the right foot in terms of processing images? (RAW editing, proper black and white conversion etc)

right now i'm 5d2 and aperture v2. photos that i've taken in RAW appear in my aperture program and i can edit, but i don't know if i'm taking full advantage of what RAW supposedly offers? is this where the DPP that i read a lot about comes in? help :)

thanks

interesting steve! i did use a card that i pay a premium for every year, so i will look into that.
henrys is reputable, and the girl gave me a good 'sales pitch' and said they are not like other stores that farm the warrantys out to 'waranty isurance firms' - still, if the cam is going to have a problem, it will likely show up immediately. i also asked the saleswoman about how finicky the store would get in terms of 'camera wear and tear' - very easy to get out of a warranty deal if they 'say' my camera has been abused...

anyway, i'll save the 450 bucks and go buy some guinness...

thanks guys

so i bought the 5d2 from henrys camera, and i have til the 15th to decide whether i want to shell out $450 for an additional 3 years of warranty coverage. i've heard these additional warranty plans can be a huge waste of money-anyone have some positive experiences with henrys?

this is my first digital camera. i'm used to my film gear that has just kept on ticking. my thoughts on digital, was that if something bad were to happen (manufacturers problem not me dropping it) then it would reveal itself right away and not just randomly 2 years down the road...

anyway, i've got a few days to decide still...so any stories/feedback would be welcome

thanks

marlon, i did not jam the lens on :) it just looked like the 'shield' part would not fit. i have an old 24mm 2.8 lens that fits on , but it is not AIS as it has been AI'd later on . i read something about trimming the shield part of the lens. i'm assuming it will not affect performance when i go to put that lens back on my nikon film cam's?

and yes, i'm using a 5d2.

thanks for the info guys

-

ok, it seems my nikon 20mm 2.8 lens will not fit on this camera. part of the (flange?) sticks out too much? i thought i saw a list of lenses that would not work, and i did not see this lens listed....

"Focusing during any recording is very difficult thing to do even for movie makers, that is why you don't see it very often in any program." --- ERIC

a lot of what eric said is true, but i must argue this point. focus is changed ALL THE TIME in the 'movie maker' world. this is why there is a dedicated job of 1st assistant cameraperson(ie. focus puller) they are constantly changing the focus distance in any given shot. with these bigger sensors, focus is EVEN MORE an issue. you really have to be careful and know what you're doing if you want to get any decent results from this camera.

cheers

thank you very much sarah! such a simple thing, wish the little box came with some instruction for this. i owe you a beer

i just got one of those chinese adapters off the bay site, and i don't see any push tab or anything to take the adapter off the lens...i can't recall if the adapter *clicked into place. any suggestions?

thanks

jason, do you have any affiliation with the poster or the link posted? seems fishy that you just signed up on photo.net and this is your first post.

jim, just because you have a camera made by fuji doesn't mean you need to shoot with fuji film.

ok, so the answer is that noticeable 'hot pixels', are accepted in digital photography...even when the file is not enlarged?

-

thanks for the replies. i'm used to dust in the lens, but the white pixel had me question what is acceptable. all my years of shooting film and scanning, i've grown used to hair and dust that i would need to patch up. was just not sure what is acceptable in terms of digital 'patching up' . ... as this pixel is noticeable without any 'peeping' or zooming into the image.

Very Cool!
