1.
I shoot around 100,000 to 150,000 images per year. I do a very loose edit on each job, and import those into my job database. (Roughly a third of my shots.) I then back up that loose edit onto a third drive.
Once the client has their images I delete the two thirds rejects, and keep the loose edit RAWs on three drives. Finished JPGS and/or TIFFS are kept in a Dropbox folder.

 3.
I have the latest version of the 24TS and it's an incredible lens. I very much doubt the older version is "bad"!

 6.
Hopefully your work is 4X better than theirs.
If you are competing with someone who charges basically nothing, you have either a skills and/or client issue. There is also the chance they won't be in business long if they are not making a living wage.

 7.
I use 35L, 85L and 135L for at least 90% of my portrait sessions. I haven't used my original version 24-70 in the past couple of years. The only time I use it is for infants, which I don't photograph very often. The focus distance is useful for that. Also, for when conditions aren't great for changing lenses, then I would throw it on for the day. It's a nice lens, but I am stuck on primes.

 8.
Duct tape around a piece of heavy card is fine as well for white balance.
I use this.

 9.
I am using manual lenses more on more these days, even on lots of work gigs. I find the focus peaking on my Sony A7R2 is easier than using auto focus in some cases, mostly with wider lenses.

 12.
I can't see any reason not to shoot RAW, especially if you want the best results and time isn't a huge factor.

 13.
Pre-focus, pretty easy when you take the same photo for your entire career.

 17.
I am keeping my Canon glass for the time being to use on my Sony A7R2. Works incredibly well with the correct adapter, and there doesn't seem to be enough of a weight loss with the new lenses to justify buying them right away.
