  1. Actually I would say that very few of the shots I post here are photos of people as such. That is much more the way Jeff works as I understand it. i.e. 'Street Portaits'. My photos are much more anonymous. So far. But that is the point. Everybody is going to work in a different way. Everybody should be looking for the buzz, the addiction that M alludes to above. There is no sanctioned way to do it. That suggests to me that there is no unifying reason people do this. Except for the buzz.

For me, I'm looking for pictures that I like, that I havn't seen before, that other people probably wouldn't or couldn't do. What do I have that gives me a lever there? My personality, my location, my access, my motivation, my time, my proclivities, my skill level...

I am an experimenter, I'm continuously looking for something new.

How do I explain that to someone who wants to know why I took their picture? I can't. I can't even explain it to myself satisfactorily. I don't have to explain myself. A pretty solid benefit of living in a 'free society'. I owe my subjects no explanation. So I take the picture and walk off.

Ask yourself "What have I done wrong?". Keep in mind that security cameras and TV crews do this all the time. What does a camera do that looking at someone with your eyes does not do?

    Thanks,

    James
