1. I use a set of Nikon 8X40 binoculars and get good results. This is last year's eclipse of the sun (three shots printed together). Film was Delta 100 and the natural density filter was used because of the brightness. It was handheld - don't remember the shutter speed but probably fast.
2. Yes, let us know the results. I'm surprised at how poor the conventional agitation with the thermometer is.
3. This is supposed to be the right one. At least it says Minox Enlarger. DR.G.FISCHER bulb substitute, minox enlarger lamp adapter+5 pieces of 6V 30Wbulbs | eBay
4. Oh, that's pretty! My Uncle had one of those back in the late 50's-early 60's. But, it was black covering.
5. Pretty! Looks very realistic. Back in about 1972, I covered my 1949 3.5 Rollei in red leather and it looked a lot like this. In 1998, I gave it a complete restoration, and it's now black again.
6. With the high of -2ºF and winds at 18K gusting to 28K, I thought I’d spend some QDT (Quality Darkroom Time) yesterday. Had an inspiration to make some Lith prints from Minox negatives. Here are three. The bottles are from the same negative - the 6 are printed on 3 1/2 X 5 and the 8 are 5 X 7. The railing, which is at our Opera House is also on 5X7. The bottles were taken on TMax 400 in Microphen. The paper is Ilford MG Art in Moersch Easy Lith. The railing was taken on Agfa 25 in Microphen. Same paper. I tried more dilution for more color, however, the processing times got very long. Five to seven minute exposures and 15 minute developing times. Still, happy with the results.
7. I'm sure the higher flow will still give you good washing. Sure, more is going over the edge, but the turbulence will be greater and should get down to the bottom. Personally, unless I want to develop in the field (can't remember the last time I did that), I use stainless reels and tanks. I know you have to load in the dark, but the minor size reels are very easy to load. Then I can treat just like 35mm or 120 film. Just my way.
8. Oh, is that cool! Never thought of making a Viewmaster reel with Minox photos. Do you know where to get the reels? I have a Viewmaster collection and always intended to buy a camera, but never did.
9. Yep, Murphy's Law - probably the best answer, Troll.
10. Interesting idea, Murray_kelly. I think the metal polish idea might be best, and a little lubrication won't hurt. I'll try that. The real puzzle to me (maybe it's the engineer in me) is why they are binding now after many years and several cycles of use.
11. No. It's the inside diameter of the spool binds on the light trap profusion inside the cap. This is before any film is involved. It's as if the spool has shrunk. If they were really new cassettes, I would think there might still be some shrinkage, but these are years old. Still puzzled.
12. I have had trouble lately with binding of reloaded Minox cassettes. It appears the spool shrinks and binds on the cover light trap. These cassettes used to work, and have not been subjected to excessive heat or moisture. Anyone else have this problem?
13. As Lou says, if you want to correct some distortion, the back can't be fully extended. I use both extension tubes and the back, depending on the situation. Both work well and in combination if you want to get really close.
14. I have never heard of a 46mm lens for the Mamiya Press series. I assume that's what you mean. The closest lens is a 50mm.
15. Are you speaking of the view/rangefinder on top of the camera? Or when using the ground glass on the back? If it's the viewfinder on top, the problem could be dirt. It's fairly easy to remove the top and clean the lenses. First, use a blower to remove all dust and loose particles. I use a Q-Tip and lens fluid. The mirrors of the rangefinder are front surface and VERY fragile - easily scratched. If they are dirty it will darken the rangefinder spot. I have carefully cleaned front surface mirrors with lens tissue and fluid. Do it with very light pressure and just enough to remove any remaining scum. My Super 23 is pretty nice, view/rangefinder wise, but no Leica.
16. Well, got my two new NiCad cells and put them in today. The unit is charging now - Minox says 12-16 hours to fully charge. We'll see how it works later.
17. Yes, the power supply is worn on the belt or in a pocket, but is still kind of heavy. The flash head is light but nearly doubles the length of my Minox B. On the other hand, I wanted it because it's vintage Minox and goes with my cameras. It is early 60's technology. There is no circuit board or computer chip inside. Just a transformer, rectifier, two capacitors and two cells, all with point to point wiring. As an old guy, I like it - easy to work on.
18. Got my ME-1 the other day. It works great plugged in. Of course, the battery doesn't hold a charge as the seller stated. Took it apart and found it uses two 4/5 Sub-C NiCads. Have some on the way. More when I get it back together.
19. Hello All, I had an opportunity to buy a complete ME-1 kit for a really low price - so I bit on it. Haven't received it yet, but, my question is: Does anyone know what battery it takes? The seller said the NiCad won't hold a charge. Not surprising, as old as it is, and it has apparently sat unused for many years. I'm hoping I can find the right battery, or make one up. so I can use it. Thanks
20. More great photos from a DSC. I had thought I didn't want one from what I had heard. Maybe I should find one.
21. Very nice! What film are are you using? I assume these are scanned film, but look like real prints could be made and would be great.
22. Very nice! I thought the DSC wasn't any good. These are good.
23. Freestyle is my favorite place to get photo supplies. They do have Rodinal. Search Results | Freestyle Photographic Supplies
24. Thanks, murray_kelly.. Troll, I agree - with a minox we always need finer grain film. I have several cassettes of Adox 25 left from my Dad. They have been frozen since the 80's. I am amazed at how good they look. Wish I could buy a truck load more.
