  1. The image is good overall, I like the tones and the composition, the subject is interesting, but I'm distracted by her right hand.  I know this may have been candid, but I find that hand just a little too distracting.

    Thanks for sharing!

Great use of silhouette with a very interesting subject. I love the way you've cropped this - people don't use cropping to hyperfocus the composition of an image often enough in my opinion. My only teeny tiny complaint with this image is the sunspot on the right. Unavoidable with your angle to the sun I know, but that's about it.

    Awesome job!

  2. I'm always a sucker for the play of light over textured objects in a black and white photo. I love the feel of this image, as well as the way the light is playing in the clouds.

    Well done, great capture!

I like the idea of this image, but it bugs me that their feet are cut off, especially since I don't see anything above them that would justify the higher aim point. The little bits of person that are just barely poking in from the right are also a bit distracting.

Other than the foot issue, have you considered a crop of the left side just to the right of the first white pole, and just enough crop on the right side to remove the little bits of person that are present? I believe that might help to tighten up the image on the subjects a little more.

    Great start, keep posting. :)

Very interesting exposure on this one. Here the brooding effect of the into-sun exposure has brought out an overall atmosphere that is moody and pretty cool. My main attraction to this image is the way the light plays with the mud/sand in the foreground, and the overall haziness of the day just adds to the effect. Did you consider evening out the horizon or was that part of the effect? My personal opinion is that having it tilted doesn't add anything to the image.

    Nice shot, keep posting!

The heavy shadowing of this image is really bugging me from an architectural standpoint. I don't know if the intent was to create a sense of an imposing building, but the building itself is so dark that I find my eyes repeatedly drawn to the sky, which itself is fairly washed out.

If going for the brooding effect, I might have tried to either bring out more detail in the sky, or perhaps worked to bring the building's light level up a little more, since the sky is already pretty washed out at this exposure. The shadow in the lower right corner is fairly distracting as well - I would consider cropping that out to tighten up the composition a bit.

    Keep at it!

Great portrait, however, the fabric tag on the left side is really distracting.

Excellent detail and composition, and a good subject. The eyes are particularly expressive, which is a very nice feature of this image.

The hardest part for me on the rare occasion I shoot portraits is in that required attention to detail - the cheap watch on an arm, an inopportune post in the background, etc.

Other than that small issue, it's a great image, keep it up!

Works very well as an abstract, great colors, good use of filters (lensbaby?) to provide almost a watercolor feel to the background. Overall, a very appealing image - nice job!

The challenge in doing the blurred waterfall effect, to me, is in having enough other items of interest in the image to make it work from a composition standpoint. I would try and include some of the area above or below the falls if it contained anything of interest, or even provided additional composition enhancement.

    Good start, keep at it!

  3. Great color, and perfect depth of field. I can't decide if I like the way one the flowers in the background seems to erupt from the butterfly's wings or not - I think it adds compositionally but I'm not sure if I find it distracting.

    Nice image, thanks for sharing!

This almost has the sense of a cartoon done by Pixar. I really love the color. The butterfly seems almost drab compared to the flowers though.

Excellent use of the sky to bring focus down on the distant mountains and the houses. Excellent candidate for black and white, I really approve of your choice there.

    Nice image!

  4. I'd really like to see a larger version of this image. The colors and subject are very striking.

I'm asking myself how much the sky above is adding to the image. On the one hand, I think leaving in that much sky emphasizes the stark openness of the terrain and really shows how inconsequential the person in the lower left is in the scheme of the world (I almost sense a Buddhist theme to this image). On the other hand, I wonder if you couldn't have achieved the same effect by cropping out most of the sky above the clouds over the distance mountains and giving this image a very wide-screened effect.

I might have considered de-saturating the red just a touch on the person - it could be the image's size but it seems just a hair too much.

Amazing image here, wonderful as it is, and yet wonderful potential for playing around with different crops and styles. Great capture!

heh, wasps always make me nervous. The thought of getting close to two of them with a camera gives me the willies.

Excellent focus and depth of field on the image, being able to see the little bits of pollen on their carapaces is fascinating. A great glimpse of the unseen world around you.

    Nice shot.

One thing that I personally think is important about an image like this is where the plane of focus ended up. In most portraits, you usually ensure that the eyes (or eye in this case) are in focus, the rest then can usually be just outside the plane. In this case, the point at which the focus hit appears to be a few inches to the rear of her eye, on those little strands of hair that are backlit.

I like the angle, and the idea behind the image, I would have preferred that the eye had been in focus. It may also be my monitor, but the light source on the skin appears to be a little cool, throwing off the skin tones on her face. An adjustment in post processing might help that out a bit.

Thanks for sharing the image, keep shooting!

Very nice macro. The depth of field is just about perfect (and I know how difficult it can be to get that right, especially dealing with blades of grass or other plants which seem to move in the slightest breeze). I especially like the tiny water droplet on the trailing leg, and the way the bug seems to be striving for the larger droplet above him, which seems to contain a miniature world all its own.

Great shot! Thanks for sharing it.

Interesting effect on the sky, and I like the way the brightness of the tower's colors really contrast with the deep blue of the sky and clouds.
