Giangiorgio Crisponi 463 Posted March 1, 2016 Near the laguna of Cagliari at dawn I saw this fisherman walking in the beach with his dog in a nice silhouette. Thanks for your comments Link to comment

setsail728 15 Posted March 1, 2016 This would be a fine photo even without out the color manipulation. But the color tone adds something extra to the feeling. Great shot! Link to comment
andrzejp 7 Posted March 1, 2016 I love silhuets and this one is one of the best I ever seen. Beautiful photo and great story. Link to comment

Supriyo 6,008 Posted March 29, 2016 I think, the appropriate title would be "Fishing in a sea of fire". Very nice exposure, execution and timing. However I wouldn't go further and interpret any deeper philosophy, because there is none. This image makes one feel good, since it triggers happy memories, and gives a sense of serenity and calm. michaellinder 16,611 Posted March 29, 2016 Supriyo, to me there is little or no sense of calm to be derived from the image. The black area in the foreground along with the silhouetted man and dog dominates the frame, with the dog's left hind leg having a rather grotesque appearance. I might have had a slight chance of serenity if I were looking at cool colors, preferably shades of blue, rather than the orange and yellow. Aside from this, unfortunately I have no memories of going fishing with my dog as company. Link to comment
Supriyo 6,008 Posted March 29, 2016 Michael,I was referring to the serene time of the day (dawn) reflected in the warm colors of the sky and the sea. Walking by the seaside, I have often encountered this scene, a man and his dog with a fishing rod. probably thats why I found this familiar. I admit, I like the warmth of the colors here. I agree with you about the grotesque angle of the man's leg. Following the leg, it ends up in the dog's leg where the man's leg is supposed to be. Considering the actual position of the leg, the man's rear leg looks longer than it should be. Link to comment
DavidTriplett 12,682 Posted March 30, 2016 I agree with Supriyo regarding the evocative nature of this image. I, too, have pleasant memories of scenes very much like this, and associate it with good times and places. The overlap of the dog's and man's legs is awkward, particularly in this silhouette view. The simplicity of the image, sharp, black silhouette over fiery sky and water, makes it graphically powerful, but limits its subtler interpretations. There just isn't a lot more to work with. Given that this is from Giangiorgio, we also must consider that this could be a highly (and skillfully) manipulated composite, and whether or not this adds or subtracts from the potential meaning. You could even play a color replacement game in PP to see how different backgrounds/colors (per Michael) might change the mood, without changing the silhouette at all. Link to comment
Robin Smith 811 Posted March 30, 2016 Great light, and a simple, direct, image with easily recognized silhouettes. Nice bokeh. I have never been fishing with a dog as a companion either, but I can appreciate the shot nevertheless. Link to comment
aplumpton 16 Posted March 31, 2016 Cute, technically competent, but with as much spirit as having a coke and a poutine in front of the Battistero in Florence and not visiting the interior. Where have all the photographers gone? Where is emotion or mystery or compositions that intrigue? Giangiorgio has done better than this. Link to comment
