As Evening Approaches

WJT

For a really nice large print of this and other subjects please visit me at Yarmouth Lane Photography.

Pentax 300mm lens. Lee 0.6 hard ND grad filter. Bogen 3236/3047 tripod/head. Inverted and adjusted in Photoshop CS. In addition to the grain management algorithm in the scanning software, I processed this in NeatImage post scan. I think it looks best in LARGE view. Thanks.

We could use a wave of this in the midwest. Beautiful serene tones on the sky and good foreground exposure on the snow.

It was 102 degrees here today - the once-in-a-lifetime snowfall in S Texas is but a dream now. Thanks for the reminder, Walter.

Hi Kim, I remember your photographs from that event. Personally, I prefer cooler weather; San Francisco would be my top choice.

Thanks Peter for the visit and comment. Regards.

Walter ... this church is certainly a keeper as a wonderful recurring subject. The white snow and white church are a very nice fit :-)

Thanks J! This is one of my favorite locations.I was able to shoot this one from quite some distance away and from the public road. I would like to have been closer but it is private property and I would not want to trespass. Thanks for stopping by. Regards.

You certainly do have some envious work ... but this equipment is heavy! I did try some Hass equipment, etc. ... maybe when I finally retire ... there is such information in larger formats that really capture expansive shots with such clarity :-)

I hear you on the trespassing Walt. Disturbing. BTW.. Beautiful shot. Missing (balancing left) detail in right shadows.

Aha, I always wondered how you got these. I figured you went to the north side of the property, and went through the bushes. I never know where (and where not) you're allowed to go when I go here - confusing... Great sky BTW. Your images of this scene are always impressive. Maybe just a half degree CCW to straighten the steeple?

Michael, thank you; I agree about the shadow detail.

Sondra, always nice to have you stop by for a visit. Thanks.

Bryan, I agree about the rotation; this one slipped by. Regards.

Beautiful work on the colours Walter. Lovely scene. BTW, thank you for your comments on my image. Much appreciated, thank you for your time.

I can see why this is one of your favourite locations. It might be worth speaking to the landowner and getting permission by the time the next lot of interesting weather comes along.

Hi Walter:

This has absolutely, positively got to be the same church I recall from "Prayer Answered" -- it's just that I can't figure out what happened to the pond. You've done a beautiful job with some very tricky lighting. I especially like the way the scene transitions from white foreground to black background to a celestial sky.

P.S. Thanks for the "Scantling" suggestion. It's been so long since I've uploaded anything that I'd forgotten that you have tell PS to match the color profile of the jpg to original image. It's a pain when you reach that point where you spend half your time relearning what you already knew. --jim

Thanks Jim; it is indeed the same church, the pond is over to the right, out of the frame.

Color profiles...I have forgotten to do that myself at times. It is amazing what a kestoke or two will do to an image!

Regards.

Walter, this is an absolutely beautiful shot. I love the sky and the whites of both the church and the snow. Where exactly is this from Cleveland? I taught at Kent State Univ. for 5 years and lived in both Youngstown and near Bristolville.

Thanks Bob. This location is Hale Farm and Village, a restored "community" that is operated by the Western Reserve Historical Society. It is very near Blossom Music Center, the summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra. I believe that the nearest town is Peninsula. As always, thanks for the visit. Regards.

A wonderful breath of fresh air! Also nice to see this in contrast to the Spring scene. Such dramtic skies. We need RAIN! Maybe Tuesday! Or we'll all have to do a serious rain dance!

Hey Jayme, count me in on that rain dance too! Tatulinski is an old Indian name. Regards.

Really good Walter. I think the church is placed perfectly. The white in the snow is handled well with detail kept in it as shown on the right. Great sky

Well Walter, maybe just the threat of that rain dance (or it could be Hurricane Dennis :) started something we can't stop. It's been raining flat out for 4 days now. No storms, just rain. I was hoping Dennis would drop a few big fish from the Gulf in my back yard, but no luck yet! Do you know a "stop the rain" dance? :)
