This is one of the popular Sculptures in Brookgreen Gardens. Many

people get their photo taken beside this realistic old man sitting on

this bench reading the newspaper. It is a Bronze Sculpture

titled 'Lane Ganeway' who was an editor of the newspaper the man

is holding, as seen by Artist Derek Wernher.

By painting in the warm afternoon light, you have given life to this stone statue, That is entirely to your credit.

Gail, there is a hospital near me that features sculptures of people sitting in their beautiful waiting area, outside on a bench, in various places by the roaring fire place and plush seating.  While inside, aides run away when a bed pan is needed or a patient can only eat if an aide moves the tray within his or her reach....

The golden light is most appealing as if the light of wisdom and words of truth wash over him.

All the best,

I'm not quite sure how I missed this one!

It has a real aura of comfort and reassurance about it. I love the warm light that is so becoming and the softness of the background. Very well done Gail!

An amazing statue which resonates with me deeply as I get emotional with the statue of The Bride girl in Savannah Georgia, in November 2016. She is in the cover of the book In the garden of Good and evil......Warm regards .

Thank you Jorge. As I recall, the 'Bird Girl' had to be removed from Bonaventure Cemetery due to 'her' rise to fame after the book became popular. She adorned the cover and I have to say I also was drawn to the sculpture. It is a shame that people started to vandalise the stone, chipping off small pieces to keep for their own. Good to know she is now finally safe in the Jepsen Centre for the Arts in Savannah. My sincere thanks for stopping by Jorge.

Hi Gail, this could almost be a living statue as it's so realistic! Beautifully captured and a wonderful piece of sculpture. Best wishes. Sarah.
