dan_andrews
Thanks, Bob. Now I can start saving up! (Side note: Those Nikonians who like to moan about cheapo lenses now can moan about Nikon's non-cheapo pricing. 'Bout time for a change.)

greg s
Makes me oh-so-glad there are less expensive, effective options. Sticker shock!
jbq
I'm wondering how the 17-55 will compare to the current 17-35...
ilkka_nissila
I think the pricing on the DX lenses is ridiculous. You really have to be happy with the 4/6 MP images to put so much money into lenses that can't be used on film or full-frame digital slrs. Since the whole point of the DX format is that the cameras are cheap, now they take the difference in camera price back in the price of these expensive and potentially future-incompatible lenses. Oh well. I think I will just get a 14 mm prime Nikkor if I need something for the intermediate term - at least that'll work.
ShunCheung
What makes you feel that pricing of DX lenses is ridiculous? Just take the 17-55mm/f2.8 AF-S DX as an example. The $1650 list price means the eventual street price will likely be below that for the 17-35mm/f2.8 AF-S, which is around $1400. You might not save a lot of money but you gain a lot of zoom range, which is great for event photography. I just went to a digital photography seminar last week. A lot of wedding photographers have given up their Hasselblads and use 6PM DSLRs for weddings now. They save a lot of money from film and processing cost. They are not arguing that 6PM is equivalent to Hasselblad, but it is good enough and their customers are happy with it, which is what matters. One side effect is that resale value of Hasselbad has tanked. Whether that is good or bad depends on whether you want to buy or sell. :-)
edwardchen
Sun, but DX lens can not be used with film camera, can it? It is so tempting but only for DLSR. Better off buying 17-35.
upscan
so what? too much for too little and too late. Nikon's marketers seem too sure that they can force their herd follow them wherever their greed leads them. Unable to expand the sensors they shrank the lenses preventing those with a large investment in Nikon lenses to take full advantage of them for digital use. With its silly g lenses and tiny digital sensors Nikon is on the path to digital disaster. It will be interesitng to see what is happening to their digital market share. The last news is that Nikon do not plan to introduce a digital camera with a full frame sensor. Nuts!
