Post-Processing Exercise - Film Noir

Recommended Posts

Used three gradients to darken the edges and reduced clarity and sharpness and add more haze with the dehaze slider. Used the radial filter to do the same on the front of the car. Darkened the light coming through car window. Desaturated overall and changed white balance for a colder tone. Nice photo to work with Rick. Might be fun to try some other treatments on this one.

00eJC7-567257384.thumb.jpg.6272b1cee1dc8ac57b1b2b09b0bf5af3.jpg

Cropping and levels adjustments in Photoshop Elements 15. Used Pro Contrast to reduce a color cast and to refine contrasts with some assistance from the Low Key filter (both in Color Efex 2). Sharpened using Sharpener Pro 3. (Wanted to use Detail Extractor in Color Efex, but I didn't want to plagiarize Bill's m.o.)

00eJGY-567275784.jpg.bffc5f9b1bea0cfe9ee28912117e976a.jpg

Hi Rick, thanks for the opportunity. Adjusted lighting (especially in car) with Lightroom. Used a Film Noir preset in Silver Efex Pro (seemed a shame not to) and brought back some details in the faces. Used Elements to add (not totally successfully) the gun discharge effect. Then resized for posting.

Great shot, fun to work with! I used the new photo editor Luminar from Macphun. Applied the "Film Noir" preset to one layer, smoothed out the grain a bit, used a couple of filters (e.g. "Golden Hour") on another layer to give a slight sepia feel, and then the healing brush to erase some bright spots that were buggin' me. About 3-4 minutes. ;)
Thanks again for the challenge!
