In the spring of ’89 I was working at an AM easy listening station as a teen and the manager would give me stacks of promotional vinyl that didn’t fit their format. Mostly junk. This was in deep East Texas and I had never heard of the Pixies, but when I put the first release of Doolittle on the platter I was astonished. It was like the first time I heard “Slice of Life” by Bauhaus on Pacifica Radio quite a few years earlier. I knew this was going to be influential.
