What is this?

<p>I saw this on a M4 on ebay and I can't recall seeing one before. Anyone know what it is?<br>

<p>It looks like a screw in cap to prevent the shutter release from being tripped, but don't quote me on that. It could be the end of a cable release too. is there a hole on the top?</p>

<p>My Leica Accessory Guide tells me that this is an OZTNO, which is an adapter to use an LTM cable release on a Leica M. </p>

Basically, now its best use is as a

soft release and works great for that.

The original intent was to convert

Leica external cap double cable

releases for some copy accessories to

M cameras.

<p>Imagining that on my M4, it looks high enough to be a bit of a pain/awkward to use as a soft release.</p>

<p>Actually, it's quite comfy. Just drape your finger over the top, firing with the first knuckle, and it's much steadier than I would have believed. I bought one, used it for a couple of days, then turned right around and bought another for my second camera, I liked it so much.</p>

<p>I remember soft releases from years ago, both the Leica type and the more usual type.</p>

<p>I had one on a Canon VI, which was nice as the Canon release is really small. It got lost many years ago, though. It might have been from Freestyle, as that is where I bought my film.</p>
