jan_deiman1
Update your camera raw package.... Your Mac needs updated software to generate previews and to open the RAW files with preview.

dan_brown4
Go to a NEF file in Finder and select open with: Preview. Does it open?

In not, go to Apple icon and select Software Update. If there is a raw interpreter for the D610, it should be downloaded to you Mac.

BTW, how old is the Mac and what version of OSX are you running?
bgelfand
You need to update the camera codec on your Mac operating system OS X. For Windows systems, the codecs are available from Nikon. I am not sure where you get them for a Mac. Perhaps from Apple?
guy_fattal
This is the OSX:

Software OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)

I dont see any updated to do with this in the update my mac.
Bill J Boyd
BTW...the most current MAC OS X software is 10.9.3. Don't know if this helps or not.
dan_brown4
Guy, you should at last see an offer for update to OSX 10.9. Perhaps the latest RAW interpreters are only supported in OSX 10.9. If you don't get offered the 10.9 upgrade under "Software Update", that suggests your Mac is fairly old and can't run it. I have a 2008 iMac that is stuck at OSX 10.6. So, that might be a clue.
Good luck.
andylynn
Doesn't 10.8 put this updates under App Atore? Guy, what the others are telling you is that in addition to the Adobe camera raw update (for reading raw files in Adobe software) you need the Apple raw update (for reading raw files in Apple software, including the Finder and Preview). ellis_vener_photography
Update to OS X 10.9.4 which was released this morning. As I recall the update to Mavericks is free and the transition is painless.
