wogears
Just came across mention of this device on another, unrelated site. It's not color balanced, or anything like that, but it only costs around USD 20.00. I'm going out to get one today. It will take an 8x10 tranny, which will impress the heck out of you.

stephen t
What was the problem with it? Looked promising from the picture.
wogears
There is a sort of 'grid' pattern to the screen, which doesn't show in the demos online.

EDIT: I note that if you view the demo video full-screen, you can (briefly but clearly) see the pattern.
glen_h
I have one like:
http://www.artograph.com/lightboxes/lighttracer/
which doesn't have lines. I got mine used, but they seem to be about $42.
It has a daylight (so they day) balanced fluorescent lamp.
I think it is 12x10. It easily fits negatives in file pages, which is what I usually use it for.
-- glen
glen_h
The one with the grid pattern seems to use an array of LEDs. The pattern might be a side effect of that, and what is needed to support the tracing surface. White LEDs are getting better, but most often I don't like their color.
At first I thought that the grid pattern was to help in tracing, but now I don't think so.
There are also light boxes used by doctors and dentists to look at x-rays. As they go digital, they might dump the old light boxes, and you could find one for a low price.
-- glen
alexander_n2
Interesting...Thanks for the post. I guess as long as I know there's a grid pattern if I buy it I can work with it as is.
