Don, those look like great shots but the uploads are showing a lot of rough pixels. How are you scaling them to upload?
Here are a few thoughts on last week's posts:
Bob - love the "Mean Max" beer shot. You know it's street photography when you can almost taste the beer from a photo.
Nick- "Bee Haven - has a lot of detail and is an excellent shot.
Yvon - Amazing perspective and shadow/highlight detail with "San Diego Bay from Point Loma".
Matt - Magic hour brings out exceptional tones and colour rendering in the "Car Show" photo.
Dorus - Great capture with "Junk Food Heron".
Howard - I like the reflections in sunglasses and look forward to trying to capture the same. Thanks for the terrific idea.
Here are a few from this week and one from last week. I'll start with another photo of my daughter who as a teen is now not minding being photographed after a few years of dodging the camera.

00cmiP-550673984.jpg.1d01bd2cf2152189f867c00cb2a476c5.jpg

Duane;
I agree: too much grain to get a clear definition, I am using the lowest grade settings I can. The originals are JPEG, 7MB, and 4928 x 3264. I added a text layer then saved for web. The final image is 11Kb 600x 397. Believe me, the original images are tack sharp, shot with my K5, a Sigma 70-300 lens (which has given me great images in the past).

Don
P.S. Any suggestions on better renditions are appreciated.

Hi Don, try uploading based on the following:
- skip the text layer for such small photos a watermark or copyright isn't really needed (little risk of commercial reproduction)
- resize to 700 X 464
- make sure you have maximum quality as the default if your program allows that (iPhoto does)

We had the USA Pro Challenge come through for a couple of days last week. It's a big event for our small community and a lot of fun, especially if you are into cycling. I shoot photos for our city and they got me a motorcycle ride for an exciting mountain stage. My hat goes off to the pro shooters who do the all the time. Hard to get good shots! My driver was amazing and I immediately felt like I could trust him. He said to ask for him again next year, so I hope I can.
Day one (stage 2 of the race) my son and I rode our bikes to intercept them on a dirt pass and get some photos. I figured road racers on dirt would be pretty unique and a good subject. This first one is the guy who won that stage. It started raining and hailing just before the riders got to me adding some more drama (and making me thankful for WR!) I've already sold this image to a cycling magazine so I'm very pleased about that.
This was hard, and scary for a few moments but I absolutely loved doing it. I hope I did a good enough job that I get to do it again!

Don - rough pixels or not those are great shots
Matt - #s 2 & 3 are classic shots. I see #2 as a magazine cover
Doug the first two shots look like they come from alien planets, love the bokeh in #3
Dorus - #2 looks like a shot from a Fritz Lang movie

And Duane - the PRECIOUS line comes from The Lord of the Rings' Gollom referring to the One Ring. Just a bit of fun.

There's either a missed joke here or someone is being overly sensitive IMO. I think I have used a Gollom joke here in the past as well. My intention was to be chummy with the millions of others who are familiar with the character, or practically everyone. I think this joke was made in a similar spirit.
Don, I can tell there are nice photos under those ugly pixels, I hope to see your work better in the future!
Duane, I like the landscape shots but they strike me as maybe just a little over processed. Are they HDR or just tone mapped? I would take that effect down about 30% if possible if they were my shots.
Douglas, I like those rocks! Interesting formation.
Dorus, love the train station!
Thanks for the kind words on my cycling shots! Like I said, it was REALLY fun. I would do more of that if they would have me again.
