Morning Y'all.

Clear morning here in Indy. I aleady have heaps of grading so I will continue to share Australia for a while. My three images for today.
The third image, the Green turtle has a sad story with it.Obviously these turtles are supposed to hatch at night, this one was an early morning riser. I knew it wouldn't make it safely to the shore without help so I protected it all the way across the beach and into the surf. I watched it swim off into the Indian Ocean and could hear a chorus of "Born Free" in my head. But the soundtrack got scratched when it surfaced to get a breath of air and a gull swooped down and plucked it off the sea. Nature...sigh.

Not much opportunity to shoot around here. 2 clear days amongst 41 rainy ones. Maybe I should invest in some WR glass? Here are a couple of shots from earlier this summer. Got to run for now but will be back to pick out a few fav's after more images are posted. Cheers.

From a couple of weeks ago from my favorite haunt - all taken with the K-5 and either the 55-300 or Tamron 28-75. I love taking pictures here because I can find parking on the street (although my last try was after Labor Day and there were NO spots) but I digress. I like taking people pictures, their expressions, their styles, their interactions and for the color, and visual impact.
Sometimes their reaction is to hide, but my concept still is evident:

00coZl-550967584.jpg.b81a0923fbcb057d5f36dcaa01e89876.jpg

Crazy weekend for me. Bud Light took over the town up the road (Crested Butte) to be Whatever, USA for the weekend. They painted everything including Main Street blue, branded everything Bud Light, and had 1000 contest winners flown in for the party. They also gave away thousands of passes to locals so we could get in on the fun. I'm not a big Bud Light drinker but hey, when it's free and there are non-stop big act shows, it's not bad. Look for Crested Butte as Whatever, USA in Bud Light ads!
I couldn't get a press pass so I ended up just being an attendee, which was pretty fun. I had to get a few shots in since I was there.
Rapper Lil Jon played a set Saturday
K-3 & DA* 16-50
<a title="IMGP9534-Edit by Matt Burt, on Flickr" href=" IMGP9534-Edit src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5584/15153139932_9e068e1e82_z.jpg" alt="IMGP9534-Edit" width="640" height="426" />
.
There were all kinds of side shows and non-stop stuff happening.
K-3 & DA* 16-50 + Metz 58 AF-2
<a title="IMGP9665-Edit by Matt Burt, on Flickr" href=" IMGP9665-Edit src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3875/15175154635_8322d9ab0d_z.jpg" alt="IMGP9665-Edit" width="426" height="640" />
.
Sunday I had to go on a long ride to a classic trail with a friend to decompress from all the craziness.
The party was fun but stuff like this ride is why I live here!
K-3 & DA 18-135
<a title="IMGP9889-Edit by Matt Burt, on Flickr" href=" IMGP9889-Edit src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3915/15173956225_64241c9009_z.jpg" alt="IMGP9889-Edit" width="640" height="426" />

Duane-nice use of black and white, it really works with the biplan. Nice portraits too.

Howard - looks like you have a real eye for people.

Dave, thanks for the photo. Is the bird a Worm-eating Warbler? If it is, that's a pretty good photo of a uncommon and

secreative bird.

Matt you sure have a way with light. The parade image looks almost like it was taken in twilight (is that the moon in the

background?).I can't figure how you got all the elements so nicely exposed without any grain. The last image is

beautifully timed and again it's hard for me to work your settings to get it so sharp and not grainy.

Thanks Douglas! I do pay special attention to the light so I'm glad it shows in my photos. I especially like backlight and the challenges and rewards it presents. Here's a little more info on those shots.
I shot the crowd shot at ISO 400 which looks great on the K-3 if it is well exposed. Those were shot a little before sunset and that starburst is the sun setting behind the stage.
The second one was at ISO 800 at twilight and that is the moon in the background. I always try to include it if I can! :) That one got it's nice light from my Metz flash combined with an underexposed background.
The cyclist was my friend I was riding with. I'd try to get a gap ahead of him, hop off the bike and try to set up a shot before he got there (not easy, he is fast!). This is a spot I have been to many times before and I figured this turn would make a good composition. The clouds softened the light pretty well and it was fairly bright out. Having the ISO at 400 allowed for the fast shutter speed of 1/1000. I paned with him to get a few shots and the shutter speed kept it all sharp. I was also shooting wide at 18mm and f/10 for DOF (and because that is the sweet spot for the 18-135).
All three images got a shadow and detail boost from Lightroom and Color EFX Pro.
.

Douglas, your Australia images make me want to go back! I probably said that last time too.
Howard, I like the smile and the yellow dress girl. Yellow dress girl is also beautiful!
Yury, I like where you were going with that second shot. Maybe playing with the angle and/or timing with a receding wave you could get nice clear reflections of the kids which would take that shot to the next level IMO.
Dave, I like the caterpillar. Good idea having the milkweed around!
dorus, that first one looks like it could be around here somewhere. Interesting effect on the last one, I like it!

My faves this week so far:
Doug - even though the subject are plain to see one gets a real sense of their camouflage. Poor turtle's didn't work. And thanks for the thumbs up.

Yury - #1 - I wish you could have gotten the fisherman to turn more to the sun, so we could see his face and #2 If you had gotten a few steps closer, just as low or lower, I think the shot would have had more impact.

Harry - I keep thinking I'd like the trolley shot better without the trolley - such a great expanse of sky, clouds and water.
Duane - the soccer shot with the soccer parent and bus in the background and Jen - you caught a great smile and (gasp) reflections in the sunglasses.
Dave - Your focus is so spot on - especially # 3 - the caterpillar practically pops off the screen and the colors are perfect. Send those guys over here. Our Butterfly Bush popped last week.

Dorus - Bravo.
Matt - the bicyclist with the scenery is spectacular. If I took pictures of all of the beautiful women at that spot, I'd be filling flash cards very quickly.
