Laura Weishaupt Posted March 13, 2014 Share Posted March 13, 2014
Mark, love it.
Louis, beautiful portrait.
This is a Snowy Owl enjoying some late afternoon sun and warmth while up on one of his favorite perches. I've seen some territorial disputes between this owl and a Red-tailed Hawk. The owl never backs down. Last evening he was out in the pouring wind driven rain, soaking wet, and hunting in ground fog off the snow. Those big beautiful gold eyes are well adapted and this bad-ass owl is a successful hunter.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
pjmeade Posted March 13, 2014 Share Posted March 13, 2014
I've just been out for a couple of hours along Cliveden Reach and these are the first shots out of the cameras.
All are shot with a 5D2 and 24-104, the foggy shot was overexposed by ~3 stops to burn out the background. The other two shots use stacked ND 8 and ND 1000 filters to give exposures of ~90 and 120 seconds.
<a title="Mayfair by Peter Meade, on Flickr" href=" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3805/13126530054_b61c984974_o.jpg" alt="Mayfair" width="800" height="533" />
<a title="A seat on the river by Peter Meade, on Flickr" href=" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3793/13126531054_ba10f27140_c.jpg" alt="A seat on the river" width="800" height="533" />
<a title="Cliveden boathouse by Peter Meade, on Flickr" href=" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2539/13126361123_9715ec2c01_c.jpg" alt="Cliveden boathouse" width="800" height="533" />
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

HarryBaker Posted March 13, 2014 Share Posted March 13, 2014
Nice Cliveden shots, Peter. I especially like the first one. I know this stretch of the Thames very well. I used to have a little cabin cruiser and spent many a happy evening moored up at Cliveden before the National Trust got snotty about overnight stays!
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

RickDB Posted March 13, 2014 Share Posted March 13, 2014
I tried to photograph small birds in flight. First, tree swallows (Tachycineta bicolor) as they skimmed over a lake in the late afternoon sun. Quite tricky - they move so fast and most shots were focused on the background.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
RickDB Posted March 13, 2014 Share Posted March 13, 2014
Second, The yellow-rumped warblers (Setophaga coronata) were even more difficult to capture in flight as they change direction frequently to catch an insect.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
