arthur_gottschalk
Yes, I want one ASAP. But I'm also wondering if an actual antique Petzval lens could be fitted to a Nikon film SLR? SK Grimes?
Two23
Yes, Grimes does a few of these every year. They did one for me last year with a 90mm Darlot Petzval. Mount is about $250, which is a relative bargain.

Kent in SD

drew bedo
What am I missing?
What is the point of putting a lens designed in the mid -19 century on a state-of-the -art DSLR?
The Petzval design was a breakthrough when it was introduced in the decade before the Civil War in the USA. Every design that followed after that was an attempt to improve on that. Today we can design a lens system to produce any amount of sharpness and Bokeh—from a laser cut pinhole to the latest low-dispersion multi-coated wide-range zoom.
eugen_mezei
It was state of the art itself at it's time, so I guess nothing wrong with pairing the two. Most people do it for the abberations (residual coma?) it produces.
What I can't understand is how one could see this adaptation job costing 250 USD as a bargain. I understand SK Grimes does this for a living, but come on.... this is a simple turning job with a lathe any mechanical job can and will meke for one thenth of that price.
