andrey_paramonov
Hello,

I recently made a mistake of purchasing 100ft in bulk of Kentmere ISO100 film without testing it on a single 24 exposure roll. After developing for recommended time in Ilfosol3 1:9 @ 20C I discovered film to be pretty grainy :(

Any way of reducing grain during processing? I wanted to try
a) 1:14 dilution
b) different developer (Arista)

Any recommendation is appreciated.
leicaglow
I love Ilford products, but Ilfosol is not why. I found it grainy in certain instances. Do you have access to xtol or hc-110? If not, a far 3rd choice for Kentmere film would be ddx.
larrydressler
I find Xtol 1-1 and of all things Diafine works great with the Kentmere 100. In Diafine I shoot it at 200-250. Remember the more you dilute most developers the more grain you will show due to the dilution of the dissolving action of the developer.
andrey_paramonov
Thanks! The only other option I have at the moment is Arista one shot developer (accidentally, it is the same dilution as Ilfosol 3 - 1:9). I have to try xtol or hc-110 then. larrydressler
Next time you think about getting a budget bulk roll of ISO 100 film look into the Ultrafine eXtreme.
It even loves Rodinal.
