Happy Wednesday everyone. Great pictures as usual. My favorites this week:
Paula's Tango
Glenn's dinghy
Louis's tree
Per-Christian's dancers
Kent wrapping his presents
Nicholaie's angel

Took my eleven year old and some friends ice skating for her birthday. My first time on the ice! I was enjoying myself so much I forgot about the camera. When they called 5 mins left I rushed in, collected the D90 from the cloakroom and got back out in time to capture a few frames. I don't think this will win any awards, but I love the colours and the reflections on the ice....

00ZlcV-426609584.jpg.0811290b4c9253623fe741a14ffb8f37.jpg

Happy Holidays All! I just received this Nikon 16mm fisheye lens as an early Christmas present which just arrived today. This is the first shot out of the box. I have a lot to learn in regard to the proper use and application.

00Zled-426631584.jpg.8763cb5144e3d5ce1f5d8010607d8432.jpg

Mine is an interior shot of St.Georges Anglican Church (1101 Stanley st) - Place du Canada in Montreal. This is their yearly Christmas Carols by Candlelight service. This represents a 5 image HDR using the Photoshop CS5 HDR option to use one image to minimize people movement. The camera was on a manfrotto tripod on CHigh speed shutter setting and 5 image auto-bracket 1 stop apart. I will specify the shutter speed in the title but it changes with each of the 5 shots.

00ZlhJ-426669684.jpg.f36a54155388350e831641889a30647e.jpg

Merry Christmas to all. Great and inspirational photos.

Angel, welcome to Nikon Wednesday.

One of my clients has a pond out their back door. Every time I get a new lens I have to shoot some pics of the pond. I recently purchased a Tokina 11 - 16 f/2.8. Here's sunrise over the pond.

00ZliE-426679584.jpg.8015eafeefb1590a15622c61d1d67288.jpg

Getting in under the wire. Lots of festive photos this week. My contribution is a shot I took while taking my son to a nearby park. There were leaves everywhere, and I liked how the light caught this particular leaf, stranded on the basketball court blacktop.

00ZljY-426703584.jpg.6567fd509623a67c8f8c4403f3545372.jpg

Diane, your picture looks reasonably sharp on my monitor. I can't explain the difference between how it looks to you in CS5 vs. posted on photo.net, but here are some things you might consider on the general subject of sharpnes:

Your picture was captured with an 18mm lens at f/16. At that small aperture, diffraction likely detracted from the sharpness your lens is capable of at a more moderate setting. Using f/8 probably would still have provided ample depth of field with a sharper image overall.

Many people use a three-stage sharpening workflow, as described in this classic article.

While CS5 provides great sharpening tools for those with the knowledge and experience to use them properly, the rest of us often do better using the PhotoKit Sharpener 2.0 plug-in. Well worth the hundreds bucks IMHO.

PPI is meaningless in the context of images for display on-screen. It only comes into play in printing (or scanning). For on-screen display, only actual pixel dimensions matter.

Happy Christmas all!
No pic to post for a while, but have enjoyed following this thread all year.
Favourites this week: Per-Christian Nilssen's Dancers, Jennifer Meighan's Portrait- really like your portrait shots--do you do much PP??
Favourite festive fun shots: Rick Sands Cat rescue to remind everyone that the emergency services are even more busy at thsi time of year, Jeanneans rare moorhen--I still have to tick this one off my list. The last one I chased dipped out. Dennis Brabender's Christmas card and Kent Shafer's-wonderful!

A great week everybody. Welcome Joe - glad you got into the fray, finally, and I like those textures. Kent, you've perfectly captured my general seasonal state of being!

Happy Holidays, all, and looking forward to next week's final Wednesday of the year.
