Since more important stuff (according to my wife) took precedence this week, I haven't had a chance to do any shooting. So, I dipped into the Wayback Machine for this 1998 shot of Canyon de Chelly, taken with an EOS Rebel G, kit lens, probably Kodak Max 400 film. (For a sense of scale, check out the pickup truck crossing the stream near bottom center of the frame.)

00YrSt-367533584.jpg.cc019dba1e0c49c83ea74afeb31d7d82.jpg

I didn't get out at all last week.
However, this was shot within the hour. I love animal irony.
This my "uppity" cat who tries to rule the house. He has one bad habit and all Siamese attitude. The photos on the wall are mine, and need to be straightened. :-)

Lee Derrickson. That was my basic flight trainer in 1954. Easy airplane to fly. Noisy as hell in the cockpit. Cockpit heater not very effective. Very cramped and if you had to bailout, which I never did, it was through a tiny hatch in the belly forward of the bomb bay. James Doolittle bombed Tokyo with it from an aircraft carrier. All the crews either bailed out or crash landed in China. Had a few drinks one night with a pilot from the raid. I was thrilled.

Happy Thursday Everyone! So many beautiful photos today. I haven't had a chance to look at all of them, but the ones I've seen are wonderful. My contribution this week is taken at my local high school's pre prom get-together.

This is a great week of pictures. I am posting this picture because not only does it warm my heart, but that it is an example of the amazing power of these machines. Taken in a completely dark room with only a small amount of light coming from the hallway.

00YrUv-367551584.JPG.141fb4c749fdd0df0d55bbaf757f34a7.JPG

Nathan,

I am not certain as to what the species is, but I can tell you that what you have photographed is a damselfly and not a dragonfly. Both Suborders are in the Order Odanata. You can tell the difference between the two Suborders by observing how the wings are displayed at rest. The damselfly hold it's wings over it's body while the dragonfly holds its wings flat and perpendicular to its body.

Nice shot by the way.

Nice photos so far! Jeff S. you really knocked that one out! Blood, beauty, and fans. And Lupo, your foodie inspired me to post this one.

These were some of the best raw oysters I have EVER had -- and I've had plenty in New Orleans -- but these win. These are Drake's Bay (Marin County) Bluepoints. They were serving these with '06 sparkling wine from Mayo Family, Glen Ellen, Calif.

In Sept of '10 I was in Yuma, AZ for a job; I had some time off on a long weekend and headed up to the Grand Canyon North Rim to have a look see. There really aren't a lot of places to park and look at the canyon like on the South Rim, so I asked a ranger about some of the primitive roads.

I got the usual routine; worst road in the park! 10 ply tires w/ two spares, 5 days of food or you will die! It is quite funny how some of the rangers carry on while trying to dissuade you. ;)

Anyway, I asked her about some place off the beaten track that had some good photo ops and she pointed me at the Marble Canyon Overlook. It was outside the park (hmmm...) and was not really well known except to a few hard core types so I took a chance and drove out there. I spent the night and took some shots as the sun was going down; it was a very nice place and the views were tremendous, so that ranger had done well after all.

00Yran-367619584.jpg.6b30ce23d235c36b7a4553da226785d5.jpg
