Nikon Wednesday 2011: #21

My Savage Beast is Chris Horner who won the Tour of California. Here is Chris last Wednesday climbing Sierra Road after he smashed the field into little bits. He is chased by Rory Sutherland, Levi Leipheimer, and Andy Schleck who are 1:15 down, followed by individual guys who are totally destroyed by Chris' pace up the mountain.

It's really nice to see Chris win an international calibre race. He was in my bike club in 2004. Back then, he even knew my name! I still know his name as he was our star rider, his riding has improved since then, and I am just an old, slow guy who doesn't train enough.

00YmcR-362239684.jpg.74fcd87b15b31064959cb7e86483e401.jpg

Happy Wednesday everyone. I'm getting in much earlier this week than usual, so there are fewer photos to look at. But a couple have definitely caught my eye for their aesthetic and simple beauty: ismail basaran and Finlay Jolliffe. Great work, both of you.
I've spent the last few weeks crawling around on the floor with my son, as he learns to crawl and explore a suddenly much larger world. This is one of my recent favorites.

00Ymcc-362245584.jpg.c0216b88d2b510a108005f7f9718adc2.jpg

I actually did photograph a savage beast of sorts this past week (an alligator in the wild), but this was a much cuter shot. Mama stilt and her babies. The extra legs threw me off initially until the chick wandered, in and then all those legs made sense! D90/70-300mm VR/Sigma 1.4x tele @ 1/180, f 5/6, ISO 800 (Thank you to those who commented on my heron photo last week. Much appreciated. :)

This week's entry is an old wine press. I spent a weekend at Peaceful Bend Winery in Steelville, MO this past weekend and this was laying over at the edge of a wooded area, most likely will just rot away over time as new equipment has taken it place.

Happy Nikon Wednesday! I am always fascinated to see what equipment people are using and I'm happy to see some made with good ol' film cameras - well done Wenshu and Bill. I'm digital this week, a shot of a kite surfer on White Strand, a beach not too far from here.

00Ymdl-362261584.jpg.1f23cd29468d9a6430a6783f853d6966.jpg

Happy Wednesday everyone. Spent another wonderfull day at the local parks viewing the new goose and swan families. Found some swans still on the nest. Viewed this male Swan eating while the female slept on the nest, then the female went to eat and the male stood guard. Nikon D300 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

00Ymdt-362263584.jpg.6a413770ff39fd5f297aaafbd439c94e.jpg

Greetings from the depths of northern Ontario. -2 here this morning (radiative frost).
Here's Harry's world. He's a 9-week old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. I couldn't figure out why my back was sore until Becky reminded me of how much time we spend on the floor. Don't let his size fool you. He's full of beans and insists that he doesn't need any sleep.

00Ymf6-362299584.jpg.18b8d95ccaec0e9150cd4052e26eac47.jpg

The month of May is magical in Indiana for race fans.
As a photog, having press credentials to the largest spectator sport on earth provides thrills and challenges. This is a shot I did from a specially constructed ladder (permission granted from IMS) as the cars moved from the garage area to the track (Gasoline Alley) in their attempt to qualify.

Wish I could post a few more for my fellow race fans.

00Ymfm-362315584.jpg.bdc889fb8bb105001ea6556c5e4e3195.jpg
