I second Nathan's complaint about the weather. Not only cold, but rain and overcast around here. To make matters even worse, Saturday my camera died while shooting a sequence of a Great Blue Heron in flight. ERR 30. Something related to the shutter. Followed the instructions in the error message to turn the camera off and back on, or to change the battery. Did both. Even swapped lenses. Called Canon and was told it would have to be sent in for repair. By now I'm almost clincally depressed. Can't be without my camera for two or three weeks, so just before packing it up for UPS, I decide to try something else. I remove the lens completely and trip the shutter a couple of times and its fixed. Major upswing in my mood, but its still raining. Finally, the rain stopped long enough to shoot a bit, but the light was still not real good. Despite everything, I got some shots I liked just before the camera locked up, and a few I liked yesterday evening. I think this is my personal favorite. By the way, as usual, some really nice shots here again this week. Seeing so much good work really helps keep me motivated. Love that Vulture, and the swing shot is really cool.

00YgGr-355283784.jpg.956a90df757cfa3d58dfeebdee719fdb.jpg

My sister-in-law, Betty Ditizio (Gracia), creates custom jewelery. Like medical devices, with all their transparent, and reflective parts, I found these items to be just as challenging and, (if not questioning one's manhood for shooting such things in the process), I considered the technical aspects of dealing with this form of work as very appealing.
Note: Below is the raw take, no Photoshop. Just a little sharpen and clarity in LR before export.

00YgKQ-355333584.jpg.b5db8e0ec306979e7ae64d542df3d118.jpg

I went to Banning State Park yesterday hoping to get some decent shots of Hell's Gate while the flow was still higher than normal, but alas, I was stopped by the very thing that drew me up there. The trail was inundated and I could not get there.

Earlier in the day I was taking some shots of Blueberry Slide when I saw a guy upstream suiting up and getting ready to hit the river. I was hoping for some action shots as he went past, but he paddled up-river instead. Here is one shot of the slide; you can just make out the yellow / red blob that is the kayaker upstream.

00YgP9-355411784.jpg.b577e9995db9931f1016eff68370ed90.jpg

Love the swing and vulture shots. My contribution is from my ongoing gig as photographer for my music school's regular showcases at a local San Francisco club. Last week's run included a night featuring a number of singer-songwriters performing original material. This performer wrote a song for her son about a T-rex, as he is more interested in dinosaurs than music at his young age. Fun stuff.
