wpahnelas
ben franklin suggested the wild turkey be chosen instead of the bald eagle as symbol of the united states... seen up close and personal, one might very well wonder what old ben saw in this bird -- but then, there's no accounting for taste.
seriously, they are pretty impressive critters. i happened to be in the right place monday afternoon during my lunch break to capture this and a handful of other images. being low down in the grass as i was made it a challenge to keep focus on the bird, all the while keeping movement and noise to a minimum.
the turkey, by the way, is looking for her chicks, who are hiding nearby. they reunited shortly after i went back to the office...

rodeo_joe1
The lately arrived warm weather brought this Speckled Wood butterfly to my garden. They're normally an extremely shy species, but this one hung around long enough for me to grab half-a-dozen handheld shots.
Focus was very shallow, so I tried my hand at focus stacking for the first time. OK, so you can see the join if you look hard enough, but I'm reasonably happy with the result. Taken with a D700 and Sigma 70-300 "Apo" zoom.
