Nikon Wednesday Pic 2010: #21

ben franklin suggested the wild turkey be chosen instead of the bald eagle as symbol of the united states... seen up close and personal, one might very well wonder what old ben saw in this bird -- but then, there's no accounting for taste.
seriously, they are pretty impressive critters. i happened to be in the right place monday afternoon during my lunch break to capture this and a handful of other images. being low down in the grass as i was made it a challenge to keep focus on the bird, all the while keeping movement and noise to a minimum.
the turkey, by the way, is looking for her chicks, who are hiding nearby. they reunited shortly after i went back to the office...

00WXig-247105784.jpg.c46105352cc71b039a8e2f46f9e8af4e.jpg

Another Wednesday here on Photo.net and another wonderful days of viewing photos from around the world. I love it.
Thanks to those that mentioned my photo last week.
This week for me I am back into the barn scene. I have been away all week so I grabbed one from a few weeks back.

The lately arrived warm weather brought this Speckled Wood butterfly to my garden. They're normally an extremely shy species, but this one hung around long enough for me to grab half-a-dozen handheld shots.
Focus was very shallow, so I tried my hand at focus stacking for the first time. OK, so you can see the join if you look hard enough, but I'm reasonably happy with the result. Taken with a D700 and Sigma 70-300 "Apo" zoom.

00WXji-247121584.jpg.f6f46b79a1d709ccbd0e824eb03e9a40.jpg

Just a quick throwing of this week`s capture from yesterday evening!
Hope a very fine day for everyone at this thread and thanking for sharing such fine captures as, for example, Roberta`s and Shun`s!
Mine was shot with D700 + Sigma 24-60mm/2.8 DG EX (great piece of optics for the price!).

00WXjq-247123584.jpg.f653c452083fa7fc4df23f67f41fc499.jpg

I have had a busy couple of weeks. I will just comment on a few today
Keith Obye, Those blossoms look like little critters, with two fallen on their backs, and the third standing. Makes me chuckle to myself.
Mitchell Freedman, That must be some bright door, if this image is desaturated! I love New Orleans...live just across the lake.
Roberta Davidson, Really sharp! I talk to my subjects too. Adds to my crazy camera lady image.
Jeff Smith, Welcome. Lovely colors and motion blur.
Mine this week is from the races at Louisiana Downs. Jockeys are sort the rock stars of the race track.

00WXn1-247157584.jpg.58e6678479a288fc472b0577d1348ff4.jpg

Wonderful Wednesday, as always.

I've been shooting film since last week and as the films aren't back from the labs yet I am posting an older shot of mine.

I've decided to stick with film for this one - this was my 5th exposure of my first roll of Kodak Ektar!
