Wonderful contributions everyone. I had a frustrating time, shooting a sporting event with a slow lens...(audible sigh), so I am posting something that my equipment can handle...portraits.
Lil....wondeful capture. Really nice job separating this guy from the background. I can see that he is trying to blend, but you got him...in a perfect moment.

Gary...beautiful image. Great colors. I love the nature abstracts. She definitely provides more art than anyone can take in. It takes a certain eye to notice the masterpieces around us.

Hamish...another winner from you. Perfect light through your varde. Lovely.

Dick...very nice landscape. Great exposure and perfect details.

Jim...I agree. This shot with all the interactions and different angles could not be better if you had posed it.

Charles...Wee! Great capture of colorful joy.

Cees...Very nice! Your rich sky sets of the boat. The line of buildings creates a perfect composition.

Lawrence...Great moment. He even looks surprised at his own abilities.

John...simple, yet commanding. Great comp!

Bryan...unique perspective...I can't wait to see more!

Mark...with equipment like that, I am sure that you keep your wife very happy too (>8

00UVDL-173141684.jpg.98cdde095987f298596193ad3ec158ce.jpg

It's another great thread full with inspired and inspiring work... thanks to all!
Some of today's pictures that caught my eye:

Jose Angel - sorry to hear about the fires, it adds to the appeal of the picture though. Hope the thistles and other plants will win back their soil over the coal in the end.
Joseph Leotta - great documentary-style photo. Love the colours.
Alejandro Held - Good B&W conversion, and sure a very original horserace picture!
Lil Judd - forgot to say this earlier: thanks for your kind comments, and for all the effort that must go into it. It is much appreciated.
The sigma 300-800... drool.... Impressively sharp too!
Pedro Cardoso - What a sneaky way to post 2 pictures ;-) Seeing them already makes me hungry, exactly as good food photography should do.
Dieter Schaefer - Beautiful silent picture.
Phil Burt - Very atmospheric
Tom Mestrom - Wow, just lots of wow. One of the best examples of B&W street photography I've seen in quite a while.
Ian Rance - the larger one indeed has more "impact" than the 700-pixel version, but either way it is a very nice shot with a lovely (and well exposed) sky. The two birds and the wandering couple just put the proverbial dot on the i.
Gary McGhee - what an utterly brilliant sunset. Gorgeous, amazing colours and well captured.
Hamish Grey - Great shot, very well done with the sunrays peeking through. Love it.
Jens Frederik - if "this will have to do", then by all means, post more!
Kent Shafer - All the blue makes and the pose of the girl make it a very strong and intriguing picture.
Charles Becker - Great colours, summer holiday feeling all over!
Luis Meluso - beautiful B&W
Cees Maas - Awesome. I did not know the tide would go so low in Yerseke.. Lovely dramatic sky too. And on top of that, you got some of the nicest mussels one can get! Some people do have all the luck ;-)
Dallas McVicker - very nice and very graphic. The sky fits really well with the composition, I think.
Lawrence Ho - great action shot.
Geert Noij - Brilliant shot, it's the type of photo that somehow tells a story, and if you look again, it seems to carry yet another story.
Shun Cheung - A very humorous shot. Surfers and fisherman usually strike me as different types, but this photo sure proves me wrong.
Bryan Meadows - Lovely, great colours in the sky.
Aguinaldo de Paula - great B&W conversion, the picture gets some "vintage" character for sure.
Matt Laur - Very funny photo.
Jeffrey Aiello - Awesome shot, very well done.
Juho Niva - What a sweet and sad photo. Great colours.
Tony Hadley - Looks like a lot of rainstorm, sensible people would probably stay indoors, but that would mean loosing a picture like this... Great light.

Thanks to all for making me want to go out and enjoy my gear. You are all a weekly spark of creativity that keeps me trying new things and trying to improve myself to better match the level of you all.

I don't have any personal pictures taken lately, so I choose to post one of a beautiful bride. This is from the wedding I shot this past saturday . It was taken with the D3+24-70+sb800, ISO 400, 1/250, F20, +1EV, at 50mm , taking advantage of the combination given by the heavy rain clouds and a ray of sun lightning the sprinkling water ...
00UVGg-173167784.thumb.JPG.7c19cb3711c56f3db9fed39a2c2697a9.JPG

Hello everyone..
Some good pictures in here this week...
I spent the weekend at the South Bank centre to watch different artists perform. One of the acts that I found interesting was a choir that was a mix between beatboxing and Kathak, a traditional indian dance. Taken with my trusted D2x + 70-200mm, ISO 400, 1/320, F2.8, -1/3EV at 200mm.

00UVIO-173181684.jpg.1a221f535758dddd61647a82462efb64.jpg

The Wednesday thread gets better and better! so many incredibly interesting images. I am still under a pile of work, so I feel pretty bad about not commenting, and not having thanked several of your for your kind comments. Here is my submission: a photograph taken at the deactivated Army base at Fort Ord, CA.
Took my first environmental portrait yesterday of a close family friend, Irwin...I hope you can observe the image and decipher a few things...
This is for a portraiture class assignment. I am teaching myself how to properly use strobes, so I used one here, camera left with a mini soft box. I wish I wasn't paying as much attention to the flash, since I probably could have had a nicer shot at a higher angle. A lot of my color looks dull here, I'm not sure why. The red and yellow is so vibrant in the original before posted to web. Can anyone please give me any insight as to how you adjust your colors/vibrance/saturation for WEB PRESENTATION ? Thx, ev

00UVKF-173198284.jpg.f0fdb39adcb30d515387f1a72c707e80.jpg

Evan, nice use of the flash. It worked really well to balance the ambient light outside. Your problem with the colors is the

image colorspace. Looking at the image in PS it seems it is in the AdobeRGB color space. Since it's tagged with the profile, it looks good in a browser like Safari that recognizes it (the couch is really punchy on my monitor), but will be

misinterpreted in a browser that doesn't. Try converting it into the sRGB color space (in PS: Edit->Convert to profile)

before you save the jpeg.
