Wouter Willemse
Hmmmm... First an Aston Martin Vantage V12, so I have something pretty to take photos of every day (in case the weather is bad).

Nikon D700, lenses: 200 f/2 VR, 300 f/2.8 VR, 500 f/4 VR, 200 f/4 Micro-Nikkor, PC-E 24, 50 f/1.4 (Zeiss I think), 85 f/1.4 and a 35 f/1.4. 14-24 f/2.8, new 70-200VR and maybe the 24-70 f/2.8 (don't really need it, but assuming this lottery is generous as the Italian lottery). Couple of SB900s. Some better ND grads, carbon fibre tripod with all necessary stuff for the long teles. Guess I will need a bigger backpack too...
Leica M9 with 35 f/1.4, 50 f/1.4 and the tri-elmar wide-angle.
And something medium format (I'd have to dive in to find out what's nicest for me) with bucketloads of black and white film, a darkroom and lessons how to use all that.

An over the top PC with all necessary software, a really good scanner attached to it and 2 top LCD panels. And I'd want a real good fileserver with some dozens of terabytes RAID5 storage to store all that material safely.
And most important (well after the D700 and the Aston): loads and loads of trips to far away countries.
So nothing too sensible :-)

the celt 2
I have to agree with Alan. What good is more equipment, when you never have the time to use it. Personally I would have some of my older pieces serviced, and I've always wanted the 30mm "fish eye" for my rb67. One other thing, I would definatley have my dark room moved out of the basement, and to the rather large addition to my home. Also, my home might be some where in another city. Boston sounds about right. Maybe a nice (really big) artists loft, with attached gallery in the "Sowa" district. Hey we,re dreaming here. Right?

jussi_vakkala1
I wouldn't buy more gear, but would buy more time to use my current gear. Too much gear around, too long periods at computer, too little photography are the primary sins of the nowadays photographers. And that is including me. KenPapai
I would spend about $40K on gear (lenses, 2 bodies, cases, some lighting) -- and another $25K on the home computer system & printer.

Then I'd spend $100K on an M5 to transport the gear, me & the wife!

Throw in another $150K for annual spending on helicopter shoots (from the air). Life would be even grander!
dan_n1
I would get a SportMobile (SportMobile.com) with enough photogear and travel the world with it... and may be another one for a body guard as travel companion...
let me see... mt4x4
So, this is a big list.....

I like to shoot sports and some wildlife, so I know I would wants a couple of Telephotos... Probably a 200 f/2, 300 f/2.8, 400 f/2.8, and 600 f/4. Plus converters.

I would also need some more *casual shooting* gear, so I'd have to also pick up the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200 trio. Probably a 105 VR also.

Then I would need bodies to put all of the great lenses on. I would probably go with a D3 and D300s. I think two bodies would do it for me. I don't shoot much portraits or landscape, so why bother with a D3X? Heck, if I'm rich I may as well get one just to have it, so I'd toss in a D3X anyways.

I'd also throw in a 12-pack of SB-900s just for kicks.

I'd need to get a new truck to haul it all around.

Oh....and I can't forget the cute assistant. Definitely a must. Of course, she probably wouldn't be willing to pack lenses around, so my assistant would need an assistant too. Yup, that's about it.
maciek_stankiewicz
Because I already have some nice cameras...
1. Leica MP + some fast 28, 50, 90 lenses.
2. Fuji Klasse S camera.
3. Fuji Natura Classica camera.
4. Overhaul my beloved Minolta XE-5.
5. Minolta SRT 303 body.
6. Minolta XG-M body.
7. Nikon F6 + 50mm 1.4 Nikkor
8. Drum scanner.
9. Whole Darkroom equipment.
10. Fuji Reala, Natura Ilford HP5 and Kodak Portra films :)
11. Well... Panasonic LX3 is a neat camera...
bmm
My answer would involve a bit of gear, sure enough. Maybe only totalling ~$25000 though. If it was today probably a D700 and a D3x, 'the trio' of zooms, and a bit of rounding out of my line-up of primes. 2 or 3 speedlights too. Actually probably my biggest 'product' investment would be a dedicated high-end post processing PC with 2 dedicated calibrated screens, printer, etc and some software.

My big investment would be to 'hire' photographers who I really admire to come with me on travels - ie to book out a week or more of their time, and pay all their expenses, go to some amazing part of the world, and learn / absorb how they shoot. I might do that 3-4 times per year. I can only imagine spending 10 days with David duChemin for example, watching how he goes about his business in India or Turkey or Vietnam or someplace...

Separately I'd also spend some money on getting constructive expert critique 3-4 times a year of my recent portfolio of work. Again I'd pay a photographer that I really admire (maybe also travel to go and visit them) for 3-4 hours of time, probably buy them a hell of a lunch or dinner too, and listen as they give their advice and views on my work.

And I'd be a junkie for all the courses and workshops at the Australian Centre of Photography just up the road!

So for me the $$ would be a bit about gear but a lot more about time and learning.

fixcinater
I've already got the model girlfriend who also likes shooting, she's happy with her Spotmatic and Takumar 35mm/50mm/85mm/135mm kit, so I'd upgrade her lenses to faster versions and have it all serviced and get proper hoods and all, and trade in her Rebel XSi for a 5DII so lenses would work the same as the Spotmatic.

For me, I'd grab a gripped 7D (sic: 1D MkIV) with Nikon's 13mm, Canon's 200/2 IS and 400/2.8 IS for sports shooting, a 5DII with 24 1.4 II for street shooting, 17TS for skate vids and 1200/5.6 for uber portraits. I'd also pick up a 1VHS with 20K rolls of Velvia/Sensia/Portra each, and a Spotmatic loaded with Tri-X on an endless loop. Also, a Holga and Holga fisheye, along with a Polaroid and all the 600 film left in the world.

Then, I'd spend the rest on travel.
patricklavoie
a medium format digital back; the P65+, all the lens that go with it, the batteries, etc..then i will realize that going on vacation or in a family reunion with 30pound of equipment would be a no no, so i would probably get also a Canon 5D MarkII with a 24-70 and a 70-200 both 2.8, a 50mm 1.2, a 24mm 1.2 and a 85mm 1.2...but then again, since i travel a lot in country where i dont want to be shot or mug because of my photo gear..i would also get myself a nice little Canon G11 and live happy ; )

Then if i was really winning a million $..i wouldtn think about getting any of that, but instead get myself 2 nice appartment block, with 5 appartment each that secure my salary for life renting it..bringing around 100K per years of revenue..smarter move, the camera could wait 1 year ; )

spenaloza
I think I would buy a digital Hasselblad with all the lenses & filters , a Metz flash and Gitzo tripod. A Lowepro bag and lots of memory cards. But if I have a lot lot of money , maybe invest and open three B&H stores , Mexico City, Can Cun and Puerto Vallarta, then I can have all the gear I want, best wishes with the lottery keep on buying, saludos // Salvador
gman
Nikon F2 Titan. A real one...not some slopped together wannabe. I would send all my F2's to Sover Wong and have them serviced.
I would also get a d3x and a d7oo plus any lens I wanted and all the important accessories like flashes etc. I would get a new computer AND a high end laptop. High end scanner and printer.
Mamiya 6 or 7 system. Heck…maybe even both!
Yashica T4…always wanted one.
