delwyn_ching
Congratulations Canon on your excellent customer service and ability to stand behind your product. Last month, I noticed the mirror fell off my 5D. I sent it to the Canon Factory Service Center in Irvine, California this past week and received an email confirmation today (4/8/09). I expected a $200-$300 repair estimate since the camera is 3 years old and beyond the 1 year warranty. Low and behold, they sent an email saying the 5D will be repaired at no charge.
I was deciding on buying a 50D as my secondary camera or even a Nikon D300 (just for kicks) but to even think that is blasphemy. Even more so after that email from Canon. I'm buying a 50D and stick with Canon until my dying days.

Thank you very much Canon!
PuppyDigs
Actually you're not that special. Canon will fix any 5D mirror for free, in or out of warranty.
Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. hjoseph7
Their customer service has been getting even better, they stay open late past working hours and are even available on weekends, although you might not allways find the answer you are looking.
delwyn_ching
Yeah I know I'm not special but it seems like their customer service has been getting better each year since I first read about it about 7 years ago.
peter_j2
Actually, Canon Canada Inc. used to provide free sensor and viewfinder cleaning. That all changed in November 2008. Now it's a $40 charge. But, it's $40 with their usual customer service smile.

And, I just had my 5D's mirror stop plates replaced free with a 4 day turnaround time.
jamie_robertson2
Does anybody know what Canon's customer service is like in the UK? I have thankfully never needed to use it but I would be interested to know.

jamie_robertson2
Thanks Alec, that gives me confidence should I need to use them. Good customer service is a rarity these days.
