psul_aul
On an F100, is flash exposure compensation best set on the camera body or the flash unit? Flash is an SB-80. What would happen if set on both the flash unit and the camera body?
User_276104
I would recommend setting it on the flash unit, since it would be more visible. If compensation is set on both the camera body and flash unit, the amount will be additive.
bgelfand
Flash compensation is set on the flash unit (SB-28 or SB-80DX); exposure compensation, which includes both ambient light and flash, is set on the body. If you set compensation on both the body and the flash, the ambient light will be compensated by the amount on set on the body and the flash will be compensated by the amount set on the body PLUS the amount set on the flash. User_276104
I was a bit mistaken in my response - I was thinking in terms of cameras with built-in flash. In that case, -1 EV of flash compensation on the body and -1 EV on an external flash unit would result in -2 EV flash compensation.
psul_aul
okay ... I guess that was the focus of my question: were the amounts additive if set on both the body and the flash unit .... seems like you guys are in agreement that they are. Thanks!
