Gretag (Xrite) Repair or Replace Eye-One Photo?

I have a Gretag Eye-One Photo that is several years old and needs servicing. It

is way beyond warranty time limits. It fails the diagnostic "lamp test." Does

that mean a "burned out bulb" or what?

 

I paid about $1200 for this when new. I have no idea what it may cost to

repair, assuming that's possible. What I'm wondering is whether it makes sense

to repair this unit vs. buying something like the current Eye-One Display 2,

which is around $170 street price...which, I'm guessing, could easily be less

money than repairing the broken Eye-One Photo.

 

I'm currently only interested in monitor calibration & don't care about printer

calibration.

 

Anyone dealt with repairs since Xrite acquired Gretag?

Call or e-mail Xrite and ask about repair costs. Once you have a price, you can make a rational decision.

X-rite has an RMA form online which I filled out. So far, I?ve not seen a word from them.

 

Gretag told me long ago that out of warranty service was $150, plus shipping, just for the privilege of allowing them to look at the unit BEFORE any estimate would be given - hence, my current questions.

Two totally different instruments. One's a Spectrophotometer the other a colorimeter (only

useful for display calibration). If you don't care about print profiles, OK, get an EyeOne

Display (its actually better for just handling a display).
