Hi Lisa. Thank you for your interesting perspective and feedback. I would say that I was looking for a critique of my effort to transform the photo into something with artistic value. I understood the result has little in common with the original photo other than the main element, the tree. I must admit that I was perhaps somewhat naive as I was not looking for the emotional reactions that you have described. For example, your perspective on the emotion of the reds and blues in sky, sadness and frustration all escaped me. I might consider cutting my ear a bit… ha ha, that’s a bad idea. I do agree with you about the line of the trunk. Adding something to the left of the tree should be easy and could include a shadow. I think that you are suggesting the left because the light comes from the left. Am I correct? I am going to play with this a bit more to add an element to the left. I do like art and many of the PN photographers have performed quite admirably in creating art from their photos. I am still struggling with techniques to do the same as I desire to make something more than a photo. Finally, I am 75 and do not have a lick of artistic training or background, but I will soldier on to the best of my ability. Best regards Lisa. Mick -

OK, you may laugh, but I settled on this Nikon D3400 with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR. Why... the purpose of this is for memories and snapshots. I've had it for awhile for my apprentices to use. I have added a few lenses to my D850 per your excellent advice. My wife can handle the D3400 as well. And via Photoshop, etc in post, I've actually sold a good number of images. So, I asked the backward question, "What is the purpose?" Went out for an afternoon at a park and it performed well. Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated. -
Unfortunately, aspect ratios are what they are. You either crop to fit the paper or leave borders to retain the original image contents. Otherwise you are depending on some sort of algorithm to change things for you, which, as you have seen, doesn't work very well most of the time.
