How to delete account?

  1. Hello,
I would like to delete my Photo.net account. How do I do that?
    Regards,
    Denis

  3. "You can delete any photos you have uploaded"
    Not entirely accurate.
Images uploaded to W/NW threads or imbedded in Forum threads cannot be deleted. "Picture of the Week" images cannot be deleted.
The bottom line is to think very carefully before posting images anywhere, including photo.net.
    If in doubt don't.

    Keith is correct.

You can't delete forum posts yourself. Anything you post in the forums should be considered 'archived forever' unless the forum moderator decides otherwise.

As far as Photographs of the Week are concerned: you can't delete them yourself, but if asked I will assist in the removal.

I don't think this is a record, but it must be close.

I was actually indicating that a polite request, rather than a peremptory demand, might have been nice.

It depends where the member lives. Members in the UK or EU can withdraw consent to process data and enforce GDPR "right to erasure", for which the minimum fines for non-compliance are €10m or £17m - depending on which jurisdiction is enforcing the data privacy regulation. This risk is why some US websites are unavailable in the EU and UK.

Art. 17 GDPR – Right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’) | General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

  10. On the other hand, offering members a functioning administrative homepage in which to make contacts and requests, a help button that actually works, a working email contact for site help, and a way to close their own account (with the understanding that posts in forums will remain) without needing someone to "ban" them would also be nice. Given the coldness of many of these circumstances, I think a simple "delete my account" without a "please" is just fine.

All of those features would be good and useful. My feeling is that those things are unlikely to happen anytime soon. As regards courtesy, whatever the tenor of the request, individuals with photos are given the opportunity to delete or download them. Posts remain. Banning is currently the only method available to delete an account.
