tsypkin
You may want to read about color photographs of the Russian empire made by the photographer to the Tsar in the early 20th century; they are available in a new book and on the website of the Library of Congress: http://www.rferl.org/media/photogallery/24928691.html
rod_larson
We have here in Minneapolis The Museum of Russian Art. Always an interesting place and last
year they had an exhibition of these photographs. It was very, very good.
randrew1
I've always been fascinated by old color photographs. I also like to restore damaged photographs. There has always been a debate about whether it is appropriate to edit historic images. I would never touch the original, but I believe it is appropriate to do the same kind of edits I would do in post production it I had shot the picture myself.

Here is an example of some quick edits that (IMHO) enhance one of these images: http://photos.randrews4.com/photos/i-G8hV4G6/0/L/i-G8hV4G6-L.jpg
starvy
Lovely originals and nice fix too by Ron. I rather like the original but my father quite likes the fixed version! Maybe, the late 30's penchant for nostalgia is a little too much in me?
hjoseph7
The picture with the fat guy sitting with a sword is quite good considering how and when it was made. The others ones seem to have faded quite a bit and some have some wide color shifts, but still OK.
