It is in the courtyard instead of being installed on the palace proper. I am actually a fan of Pei, but I wish this one were farther away. I wouldn't take a sledge hammer to it, but it is a little "discordant"

Or as we say in the NR committees, it is 'intrusive", even "non-contributing".

I find, in looking over my files of architectural images from Paris, that it is telling that I did NOT take a picture of the pyramid.

I believe at the time (2008) I thought it was a strange place for it, but still did take some pictures of it.

I might not have any pictures of the Pyramide Inversée.

We're currently undergoing a very controversial public dispute, in Ottawa, about a planned addition to the Chateau Laurier hotel.

Originally designed in something called Gothic Revival Chateauesque, the building was intended to reflect and complement the Canadian Parliament buildings, on the same block.

The building is now about 100 years old (actually older than the current 1927 Parliament buildings), and the new (2013) owners are planning to construct a massive addition, in beautiful 21st century style. The proposed design, described by much of the public as " a huge radiator" has been recently approved by city council, but a very intense public legal opposition has been mounted.

Talk about beating a dead horse, but here's more evidence of the historical integrity of the Paris planning people:

Gare du Nord revamp ‘indecent’, say leading French architects

In general, I much prefer "indecent" aesthetics to mainstream aesthetics or aesthetics with supposed "integrity." I do agree that "historical integrity" may, indeed, be a dead horse, especially if one views history as merely the past rather than a present, connected to the past, that's ever moving forward.

French billionaires make good on $109M pledge to help Notre Dame restoration

Good for them. Rushes to judgment don't necessarily pan out.

Nothing in my post or in this situation justifies your preferences.

Notre Dame is not an early Dairy Queen, worthy of preservation as that may be.

Does every opinion offered in a forum require something you believe to be a justification? That would be a tough censoring mechanism. I don't have to justify either my preferences or my willingness to state my preferences to you or anyone else, thanks.

Well there you go.

Get yo self a photo and have at it.

But don’t advocate defacement of the original.....

Now we're cooking with gas. Because I can see my own Duchamp and raise it an Ai Wei Wei

And then, we can see Ai Wei Wei, and raise him a Maximo Caminero

... and defacement, however, are different from taste.

Like I said, take a photo and do as you wish.

The reason people deface Art is for attention.

The world is full of behavior that debases the Human Spirit all done for attention.

Push the other guy’s head down to be seen.

defacement

You recently made an issue of word usage. I’m returning the favor. I’m not necessarily advocating for any design at this point, just pointing out that none of them are defacements. As I made clear, though, in my response to you in that thread, meaning shouldn’t be limited to exact definitions, especially if tone of voice and context convey understanding to the reader or listener, and your choice of the word expresses more than simply what could be read in a dictionary and your meaning has been conveyed
