Landrum Kelly
I have enjoyed this thread immensely, because I love the conflict of ideas--as does Fred. In fact, it is safe to say that some of us truly thrive on such intellectual conflict. John has his own vision of what the site ought to be, consistent with his own mission here: he has created his own world here, and in that world there is peace and harmony. Everyone can divest himself or herself of their body armor in that world. There is room for that perspective, too, and I like to enter John's world when I grow weary of my own. Landrum Kelly
One could do worse than try to create a photographic idyll here on Photo.net. My own would be a scene from Nature, with nary a human being visible. I realize that neither John nor Fred would find much interest there, but we all come here for. . . whatever we come here for. I do get tired of the non-functioning toilet, though. That rather ends the idyll for me. Frankly, that's why I don't hang around here much anymore. One can ignore the backed-up toilet for only so long. Perhaps someone was on the quarterdeck of the Titanic painting watercolors of the unfolding drama as that world slid beneath the waves. If so, that vision must have been lost to posterity. Is it any great surprise that so many have jumped ship? I meant to say, one has little incentive to invest a great deal of creative energy in a site where the bilgewater seems to have flooded the engine room, and perhaps the bridge as well. Sounds to me like a great photo op. Add some dead animals (with or without maggots), dead bugs (and/or live bugs), and, of course, banana slugs and I'm there. ............

PapaTango
So, I am going to make a short story longer... I have been hanging around this venue since 1999. Can't remember the first screen name, became Pragmatist in 2004, and standardized with other forums and venue as Papa Tango a couple years ago. The subscriber thing has cycled in and out multiple times. I did not mess with this place for nearly 3 years once simply because several cliques of regulars had become so nasty and elitist. People have always come and gone. It is the nature of forums. Sometimes one of the most prolific personalities simply loses interest and drifts off into the digital ether--some die. Rarely do more than a quarter of members remain consistent across time. Site function and personalities draw people to forums--and these are steadily losing ground for other forms of communication--the least of which are things like Instagram and Facebook. As a web developer, I expect what I stand up and places I frequent to be functional. To achieve nearly 100% uptime (allowing for maintenance), and not be riddled with careless development mistakes. This is even more so for places I subscribe to and provide funds--even a pittance of individual costs against the real costs of general operation. Serious mistakes were made here, not just once but twice. Remember the first attempted rollout? The biggest issue 'was' that soon after rollout it was abundantly clear that whomever was behind development was far out of their capabilities. Then lots of platitudes were offered to us, and communication became increasingly sparser. Members (such as Leslie) stepped forward to lead user support and workarounds. Months passed with little or no changes to much of anything. The owners of this venture did not respond to anyone's attempts to contact them. Some members packed up and left in a huff ( ) and the rest of us stayed. Some have been very vocal--including myself. After long delays, it appears that an interest has finally been taken in fixing things. Will it ever be what the version was before upgrading to Xenforo? No. I do have a better feeling that ultimately it will be useable and convenient. As such, I just renewed my subscription a couple weeks ago. All that said, you kids can go back to squabbling in the sandbox. Watch out for those cat turds over in the corner... "I See Things..." Julie H
Nope. Not going to do it. Not going to post my picture of a wild turkey turd that looks just like Charles Bronson. Out of respect for John Peri and/or empathy for Charles Bronson or for the turkey, I'm not sure which.

Julie H
You know you want to... OMG. You have no idea how much. Charles never looked so good. Does empathy cover turds?
PapaTango
That's a very deep question. I seem to remember having empathicized with some metaphorical turds before... Perhaps my friend Puddles can provide some inspiration! "I See Things..." The FotoFora Community Experience [Link] A new community for creative photographers. Come join us! Julie H
'Metaphorical' is cheating. I have a Basset Hound who eats all the peaches that fall off my peach trees. All as in she eats the whole peach, including the pits. When I clean up the end results the next day or so, I'm sure that it's empathy that I feel. It's where I feel it that concerns me. [Those clowns are ... good! That's probably not what they wanted me to say about them.]
