Happy Thursday everyone! I've been watching the Olympics all week and am watching the men's gymnastics competition as I write this. Being in the U.S. there is a delay in the air times so we have to be careful not to see the results before we watch the contests. I absolutely love the Olympics and have enjoyed sitting on the couch each night with a beer and watching whatever competitions are on.

I saw on a local birding forum that there was a wood stork spotted here in Louisville, KY on Monday, which is an extremely rare bird for this area. I woke up early this morning to hopefully photograph it, but it had moved on and I didn't get to shoot it and mark it on my bird checklist. I guess that's how it goes sometimes. I did, however, manage to get this shot of an indigo bunting on the walk this morning.

00ag5l-486981584.jpg.9ebdd444467c7fc384523075341f4d0c.jpg

The One That Got Away...

Well, I did not expect him to do a 180 at lift. This would have bee great with an eye, or even a head! Try, try, try again, I suppose this is what it is like birding though. Beautiful images by everyone else this week...

Sunflowers are out in full force in the south of France now - its easy to see why they have been such an inspiration to artists. Here is a shot converted with the Pixel Bender plug-in for CS5 into an oil painting. 5D2 / EF 24-105L; 1/50s @ f/22.0 ISO 200. Tripod.

00ag6n-487013584.jpg.87da5e6d651b492062c63185a46c2087.jpg

Nathan, you may have missed the stork, but you nailed the bunting. We have buntings in the western part of the state, but I've never seen one here locally.
Robin, it's hard to get a bad photo of ferns, but this one is especially nice. I like the highlights and muted areas; gives a layered look to the image.
Jeff, I don't know how you focus in that light. Great color in this shot.
Laura, love it! Great idea/concept.
Doug, nice capture! Is that a Golden Eagle?
Phil, I must have missed something; why does this robin have a death wish?
DL, I could publish a book of my shots like this. Next time.
Lupo, that soup looks a little dry. Good lighting (as usual).
Rick, that should be framed on a wall somewhere. I like the oil painting effect.
Justin, I see a future Olympian!
Jan, I think you'll find shooting RAW will give you more lattitude for adjustments during post.

Didn't shoot anything this past week. Here's one from a few weeks back.
