1. Couldn't tell you if I prefer the F2 or F3. Still have both and they still work, in fact I was using the F2 today. The F4 and 5, entered the Land of the Giants, not very different from D2x or D3

I like the F2 as the ultimate mechanical SLR ever, and the F3 as the best electronic SLR ever. Both are superb cameras. Agree highly about the F4 and F5.

  2. Buddy the dog and I took the Olympus RC out for a walk. Film was Tr-X developed in Microphen.

I took my Olympus 35 RC out to Kingston, TN last Saturday. Adaptive Water-Ski event with an organization I am a member athlete of. Didn't get to Sit-Ski, (partially torn left Achilles tendon and cracked left shin bone). Had lunch with my friends, and shot a roll of Kodak ColorPlus 200, should get scans as early as tomorrow from the lab, so I can post some here. Had a blast.

  3. Nice post.

Even though it was American-branded, it had the "fett" lines of the Federal Republic.

A surprisingly good one if it works. Pentina - resurrection and life

Nikon did a leaf shutter SLR too

One of the reasons was flash synch was 'easier' with leaf shutter

But Nikon didn't built the Nikkorex. It was built for Nippon Kogaku Tokyo, by Mamiya.

  4. Yes, Donald, that is indeed a Gossen Luna Pro. My dad used it with his Mamiya C33 from time to time as well as his Crown Graphic. I may still have that meter in a box somewhere,

] I'm glad you're able to use manual cameras. I look forward to seeing what you produce with that Minolta SRT 201.

And I now own a Luna Pro of my very own. Just bought it.

  5. Just curious.....what do You think of FP4.?

I switched to Ilford when Plus-X was discontinued and i have no complaints.

I, kind of, automatically abandoned Tri-X and picked up the HP5 habit at the same time. I like both of them very much.

Then again, i am just a hack "Street Photographer" that shoots 35mm 97% of the time. I have a RB67, but i am too lazy to use it near as often as i would like to.

    Anyway.....Thanks.

I appreciate for your input (if you are still listening)

I like Ilford FP4+ just fine for outdoor work in good light.

  6. Well ok, one more... Kodak’s T400CN, their first B&W C-41 film. It’s paler orange mask compared to its replacements (BW400CN, etc.) lent itself to easy conventional printing while facilitating machine printing at the same time. It’s the only film I felt that ever came closest in tonality to Verichrome Pan.

This film would be well worth reviving. I liked it a lot. Excellent tonality. I'd even settle for having BW400CN back.

  7. A note: My photography tagline is "The Spastic Image". The late, great Dean Stone of Maryville-Alcoa Daily Times fame gave me that tagline. As I deal with Cerebral Palsy, and muscles with a mind of their own. He told me, this reflects the obstacles you must overcome, to get steady enough to get an image which satisfies you. I use improvised obstacles, and a zen like approach to harnessing my legs to be quiet enough to get a photo. Sometimes, I get lucky and get what I want.

  8. In Kodak literature, (I don't have the exact reference in front of me at the moment), Plus-X, which was available in 35mm, was promoted to be similar to VP, thus Kodak never felt the need to make VP in 35mm. Ironically, they did make it in the 828 size, which by all format purposes was the same as or very close to 35mm.

In my view, there wasn't a lot in common anyway between PX and VP; to me, PX was harsher and contrastier* as opposed to VP's creamy tonal transitions.

*Not to say I don't like PX, because I do. ;)

I really miss good old Verichrome Pan, and that would be lovely to revive in 35 mm and 120 roll film.

  9. Mike, I have a roll of C41 (Fuji Superia 400) at the lab for processing and scanning. It's at F32 Photo in Knoxville. Maiden roll on a new to me Fed 5B with Industar 50 2.8. And action instead of landscapes, to shake things up. Had fun. Went climbing in a Wellman Harness in the gym.

  10. I am a big fan of the Gossen Pilot meters. Get the selenium model, not the Cds Super pilots. Yes they are hand held, but a bunch of them work with all my Folder & FSU kits. Aloha from the Mainland, Bill

Agreed. Used a Gossen Pilot 2 with my Fed 5b. The two go together just fine. Ran my first roll of Fujicolor 400 Superia through it and it's at the lab being processed and scanned. I love the images you get from your Fed.

  11. The Canon Serenar 50 f1.8 isn't a Sonnar formula per se (6 element Double Gauss I believe?), but it is a terrific lens and one worth having if you shoot with the Canon 7 or any other LTM. It is sharp, but has character in all the right ways (to my mind). I also have a 50 f2 Sonnar and the ubiquitous Jupiter 8.

How do you like your Jupiter 8? How does it compare to the Industar lens? I am about to own my first FSU camera, a Fed 5v. Thanks, Kent.
