  1. We "dragged" my 5-year old granddaughter down to a local wildlife sanctuary a couple of weekends ago. These are a couple that came from it.
  2. hanks all around. These were very helpful. Unfortunately, I had only gotten back into photography about a month at that point and had had the camera a couple of days. This was #169 on the shutter count. I was still shooting only in jpeg at the time so I don't have something to really edit beyond cropping and color ups and downs which I've done and shown below. I like Sandy's more given the extra contrast. We'll be back next September and will try again, this time in raw.
  3. I figured I'd put one up as well. This is a photo of a duck blind in the middle of the Pamlico Sound in North Carolina just hours before we got the call to evacuate pending Hurricane Florence. The intent was to show the solitude in the middle of a calm body of water. Not sure I pulled it off. Anyway, all comments and suggestions appreciated.
  4. I submitted a photo one time to an instructor and he asked me what the subject was. It was a great photo with nice colors but I couldn't honestly say. I'm getting the same vide from this one. Great colors but I still not sure what I'm supposed to be looking at. Almost like there's a bird photo-bomding your great sunset. Wonderful catch of colors.
  5. PA Horse Expo Demonstration
  6. Thanks for everyone's input and guidance, especially the part of not trying to recreate a professionals' work. That's one of my main issues.... I hate learning curves and get impatient. One thing I will note is that enjoying the experience will be more important than getting the picture but am going the give it my newbie best shot. Hopefully that will help in dealing with the crowds. These are great pics. Quite inspiring. Thanks again.
  7. Thanks for everyone's input. I'm getting psyched up for the trip and mentally preparing myself for the crowds. As for the gear input, I'm still new to the game and working with the kit lenses so I don't have much. I could bring all my stuff and not over load myself (says someone whose hasn't taken a long hike with gear since backpacking in Boy Scouts ;) ) We'll be coming in from the south through Jackson Hole and have planned a day in that area but I know it won't be enough. The issue of being prepared for snow came up and, interestingly, we were blocked from going up Mt. Rainier in Washington during the same part of the year (early June) because they hadn't finished clearing off the snow on the roads. We'll be prepared. Thanks again for everyone's help.
  8. Bartram Goshen Covered Bridge West Bedford PA; can't drive through it anymore but still a great site.
  9. Thanks. Great pics, too. We've been warned about the crowds. I'm not much of a people person in large doses but will have to deal with it for this,I suppose.
  10. My wife and I are taking a trip out to Yellowstone this June and are deep into the planning stages. We're staying in the park at two different lodges (one the first half of the week and moving to another the second half). We came across this site showing a list of companies offering painting and photography tours and wondered if anyone has taken advantage of them and what your experience has been. Painting & Photography Tours - Yellowstone National Park (U.S. National Park Service) I'm still pretty much a newbie but am learning so I'll probably be quite a bit behind most experience photographers if that's relevant. Also, I'm not up for hikes up the side of a mountain (long past that in life) but do love some "communing with nature" type of hikes to get to vantage points. Obviously any additional tips would be greatly apreciated. I'm going to be posting this in the Landscape portion of the forum as well in case you see this there. Thanks for all your help.

  12. Didn't realize until I got home and loaded it into the computer that I also got a little insect in the pic. This is a Cattail on Roanoke Island in NC
  13. Not technically the first photo but taken on the 1st. This is part of the Corrolla Wild Horse herd in Corrolla, NC. Unfortunately the one with the foal was way too out of focus.
  14. I don't think I've posted this one yet on this site. From September.
  15. Thanks, guys. This is helpful. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  16. For some background, I just started in the hobby back in August and am working with the Canon T6 and kit lenses that came with the package (a 18-55mm f4.5-29; and a 75-300 f5.6-40). Q1. My wife and I are going to be heading out this coming weekend to look at the lights around town and I'd like to get some shots. Are there any specific exposure settings I should work towards. Although I have a general understanding of the Holy Trinity of exposure settings (shutter, aperture and ISO) I haven't mastered playing with them quite yet. Q2. My other question relates to trying to blur water falls and rapids. Each time I've tried to blur water coming over rocks or some other item by lengthening the shutter speed (slowing it down), I end up blowing out the exposure. The result is something that is way over exposed. Again, are there specific settings I should be working towards? I have not yet figured out how to stack exposures or use gradient filters if that's the answer and I'm not even sure my camera will automatically take multiple exposures that could be stacked later. Thanks in advance for any help.
