I always look forward to seeing your photos--you have such a mastery of composition. I really like the strong lines here.

    Aurora 27.03.17

Beautiful! There's something particularly striking about the combination of lights here--stars, aurora, lighthouse, city, and reflections; it somehow makes the aurora seem even more real by showing it in a non-exotic context. The other thing that strikes me is that it'd be a stunning photo even without the aurora--the light from and on the lighthouse is magnificent in its own right.

This is a very powerful portrait--beautiful detail, very nicely composed, and such an intense expression. You've conveyed character beautifully here, and I like your treatment of the black & white tones a lot. Nice!

My favorite of the new series--I love the colors and composition. The lighting on the orbs (floats?), the water jet, and the mist of droplets is stunning.

Very nice documentary image, and a really strong composition--so strong, in fact, that it gives an abstract quality to the image. And I also have to smile because I can't not think of Darth Vader, but with a water canon instead of a light saber.

Beautiful detail, wonderful colors, and I love the composition. I like the angle you chose--it shows off the shadows of the stamens beautifully, and that little bit of shadow intensifies the color of the brightly lit flower. Really nice!

A beautifully tranquil scene, and with such cooperative models! I like the colors a lot--it feels like the Spring-side of Winter. I also like the composition--that dark, wintery forest makes the perfect backdrop, and sets off the cattails beautifully; that, in turn, makes the cattails into a really effective foil for the swans. My eyes keep coming back to the swans, but then they wander back to explore the cattails and the forest, then back to the swans and the foreground--this is a very satisfying image.
  1. Hi, Pierre - It's odd that the comments aren't showing up. What you should see when you click on "Your Activity" is a row of buttons saying "last week", "last month", and "3 months"; "last week" should be highlighted. Under that there should be 2 tabs, the left one saying "uploads" and the right one saying "other." Under the "uploads" tab, you should see a column of large thumbnails of your uploaded photos that have had comments on them during the past week, and the comments made during the week (the photos show up in reverse order of when you uploaded them--the newest one first). If you click on the "Other" tab, you should see thumbnails of any photo that you've commented on during the past week, along with any other comments made on it during the week. I'm not sure why it isn't working for you, but I do know that the programmers are still working on some bugs on the portfolio side of the website, so with luck it'll work for you sometime soon! --Leslie

What an amazing place! I like how you've composed it with the figure to provide a sense of scale. I'm wondering what the image might look like with a bit less contrast--you might lose some of the detail in the sand ripples, but it might be worth it to open up the darks on the shadow sides of the dunes (and you could put contrast back into the ripples with a local adjustment). I like the glow of the sun at the top of the frame--that adds a lot.
  2. Really nice--the foreground detail really adds to the sense of place here, and I like the way you've handled the colors--they're dramatic but understated, a balance I often find difficult to achieve.

    weeds

I'm finding this a very intriguing image--the foreground grass is interesting and stands out nicely against the background. But I'm particularly impressed by the textures and colors in the background--they work very well, though the lower right corner seems like it's not quite in the same world.
  3. There's something very tranquil and meditative about this image, so when I read the title I had to smile--it is so fitting, both from the point of view of what breakwaters do and from the feeling the image conveys. I like your composition and handling of the B&W here a lot. And I'm feeling calmer already...
  4. This is another in the series that I particularly like--the shapes are intriguing, and I like the format and composition. There's just enough detail in the darkness on the left to balance the strong vertical curves, and I like how the focus softens as those toothed curves recede.

    Dragonfly

This is beautifully detailed, and the light on the wings is wonderful. I also like how the colors in the dragonfly work so well with those in the background. Nice!
  5. This is a very effective series you've posted as "Rusty Abandoned," and of the images I think this is my favorite. What particularly attracts me is the sense of the light in the building. The brilliance of the windows contrasts nicely with the darkness of the walls, and the lines of windows draw me into the depths of the image very effectively.

    Us and them

What a beautiful place, and the look of wonder on the person's face makes me relate to her instantly because she's reflecting my own reaction to the beautiful details of the room. The patch of light on the floor that leads to the figure is so perfectly placed, and that cool light (and the cool tones of the woman's clothing) contrasts so wonderfully with the warm light in the room--it does give the feeling that there are two separate realities here. Nice!

    weed graffiti

I'm thoroughly enjoying the simplicity, the textures, the shapes...and the title! You've made the weed stand out beautifully against the background, while still maintaining a lot of interesting textures, shapes, and colors in the background, and the detail in the weed is beautiful. Nice!
  6. This one had me laughing! If you'll forgive me a pun in English, it looks more like a "broke" building than a "Baroque" building--it seems like there's about 80% of it missing. [and an aside--in another response you mentioned that you couldn't see new comments on your photos unless you checked them individually. There actually is an easier way: if you go to your portfolio and click on "Your Activities" on the left of the screen, you'll open a page that lists recent comments on your photos]
