1.
A couple more to close the month for me.
With FD 35mm F2.0 and FD 20mm F2.8
Sadly the impact of both images is really diminished when posted here as it robs the quality and "3d" pop of it specially on the first one but hope you like it. :)

 2.
Michael, I will be using it with the Sony A7ii so it should be sweet with the built in stabilization. :)
Mark, hahaha yes this copy looks really good and looks like any paint damage will be small and possible for me to retouch with the original Canon paint if I feel like. Based on the pics, I dont think I will be bothered. Plus I got it with the original Canon case and that front Canon pouch part too.
Jim, darn cool story! You guys are making my wait until Tuesday even harder! :D

Thanks all!

 3.
Sorry for the over excited post but I cannot wait to get my hands on this my first L glass.
I plan to add the x1.4-A and 2xA adapters to sort of have a 3 in 1 combo of a lens.
These next few days cannot go fast enough :D
I will post some pics with my camera and shots taken with it..probably from the zoo first of all.

 4.
Mark is not about seeking attention but I care for my gear and like to keep it as new as possible. ;)

So I couldnt get the lens for a price that made sense based on how horrible it looked outside ...too close to the price of much better looking ones so I will just get a different one but thanks everyone for commenting!

 5.
I am going to buy a lens but the pain is very rough so I was wondering if by getting the right Canon paint, it will be hard for someone with no skills or I can hire someone around if needed.
What you think?

 6.
I fully agree! I wish more people will join us. :)

 7.
One more from the Folkfest..such a cool event!
FD 50mm 1.4 on this one and cropped to remove the bottom of the stage and few heads in front of me.

Sadly it loses a LOT of the impact in this smaller, lower quality image compared to the Flick link :/
Here is the flickr if you want to see it in full quality. :)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/lgabrielg/20360288585/in/dateposted-public/

 8.
That 500mm FL looks like a beast. I love big lenses. :D
The IQ looks great to me from it as well.
I wonder how it will compare to the FD 300mm 2.8 with an extender (well none of the extenders will give me a 500mm but still).

 9.
Thank you guys! As a relatively new photographer this is very encouraging to me. :)

 10.
One more from the Folkfest..this one is form the Taiwan dancing team.

Cannot recall the lens but probably the FD 200mm F2.8 since the 100mm and 400mm would have been very different from that section. :)

 11.

Taken with Canon FD 100mm F2 or 200mm F2.8...sorry cant recall which of the two if I had to choose, the 100mm sounds more like it since he was not too far.
It was during a Folkfest show, a pretty fun event overall.

 12.
I am using the A7ii myself precisely because I fell in love with Canon FD lenses by accident. I have never used my 400mm F4.5 as much as I have after getting the A7ii...hand holding it with the IBS is just a beauty now. :)

PS (I fell in love with Canon FD lenses because I had the sony 35mm APS-C lens which I had to sell due to financial issues so I needed something in the 35mm range or so while I could buy it back and I did not want to spend a lot....so I found a 24mm F2.8 for $60 and I was blown away buy its rendering....and today I have almost all Canon FD lenses aside from the Kit lens which I keep mainly for video.)

 13.
Cool stuff guys! August is looking good! :)

 14. Not smaller just specifically 300mm final range. I just started thinking about saving for a long time to get the 2.8 instead of the F4L today ...I wonder how much better it can really be aside from speed. I did see some amazing full body portraits with it with sweet bokeh and isolation.
 15.
Interesting that you mentioned that about the internal filter.
I own the FD 400mm F4.5 and never tried removing it. What is that filter for any ways? I mean, if I remove it, can it cause any issues with dust etc? Do I gain more light? :D
Thanks! :)

 16.
Hello!
Just trying to get some comments about both lenses. I will use them for portraits and some sports like Hockey and Rodeo, etc also the Zoo and so on.
So...I am guessing the 300mm F4L will be a higher quality lens overall with less CA and sharper but is it sharper than the Tokina both at F4? I mean, having the extra speed on the Tokina could be nice for low light sport events plus a thin DOF for special shots too but while the Tokina is more expensive usually than the F4L , somehow I am always attracted to the L glass.

Any thoughts? :)

 17.
Last shots for the month from me.
This was just trying to learn about speed lights setting up a small basement studio.
Two of the shots were learning low key photography and the other just me trying to look cool :D

All photos taken with the FD 400mm F4.5

 18.
I wonder how being a display model affects its build quality if it does at all. :)

 19.
Yes that is what I mentioned above about missing the L but between the decal and white L, I am afraid how it will affect resale value in the future if I ever get rid of it so I am going to pass on it and look for another copy. :/

 20.
Rick Janes, that is an excellent point!
If this was an early version it would have the breech lock but no, it is actually the FDn mount as well which makes the whole white L even more strange.
I dont feel comfortable buying this lens any more. It may very well be some oddity and be the real thing but if I ever need to sell it, I will probably have some problems because of this.
Better look for a different copy :/

Jim, this is a lens I was planning to buy so I wont be able to weight it until I buy it sadly.

PS
Someone pointed out that the lettering is embossed if its real and also the Canon FD 300mm etc is on a different location for the L and regular version in order to leave space for the red band which looks embossed as well so that kind of makes it look indeed like the real deal.
I mean, if they were able to fake the red band and move the lettering higher why would they miss the L?
Still, just something makes me feel bad about having the "weird" L lens.

 21.
I actually got a reply from Canon too.
Does not help me since I cannot see the L on that photo but at least they replied fast!

Dear Luis G,

We appreciate your continued correspondence regarding the Canon FD 300mm f/4L.

The FD 300mm f/4L lens, as it appears on the Canon Camera Museum [Link Here] is a black lens with white lettering. That lens came out in December of 1978. The decal on the barrel could indicate that it was once a part of CPS back in the day, a news room or someone may have stuck a Canon sticker on there for aesthetics.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

This is the link:

http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/lens/fd/data/100-800/fd_300_4l.html

 22.
Yes, first thing that came to mind when I saw the logo was like an engineering sample in the CPU world.
I am just trying to find if there are any specific differences between the L and non L versions that can tell me 100% for sure is the real deal.
At the same time, I feel a bit let down that this will be my very first L lens and is not looking like the rest...a good and bad thing at the same time.
I was buying tomorrow so now I must decided quick.
I mean, maybe looking at the blades or something I could tell?

 23.
Yeah I will probably keep the logo there for that reason indeed but now is the WHITE L that is worrying me since I am searching all over google and cant find any other one in white. :/

 24.
Wow now you got me worried. The letter L indeed is not red like now I am seeing on all other L lenses. I mean could this guy have been fooled by the Japan store he bought it from?
I mean, is there a chance this is not really the L version?
