  1. I use a battery pack with two Di-lion batteries....I really do not know how many shots I can get because I have never run them down...I know I must have shot at least 5/600 without charging..I do peek at them on the LCD every now and then just to see how I am doing..
  2. I used nothing but liths in my F5...They would last me for forty or fifty rools by customizng...rewind the film manually..a huge saving in battery life...camera shutdown in 5 seconds ,etc..
  3. I have a D100 and a Coolpix 5700..I am very happy with both...because they serve two different purposes for me..I tried a D70 for kicks..To many unecessary gadgets to mess with...I make a lot of almost macro pictures of flowers, bugs,..etc. the 5700 was never intended perform like a SLRD..but, it can not be beat for what i use it for..it also makes a excellent back up camera..slow focus? yes..I have a power pack with two Li-ion batteries on my D100 and have shot over 200 pics in one day, no sweat..probably could have shot another 100...I used JPEG/Normal..very sharp pics, can make excellent 8X12s in this mode..The camera feels much like and performs like my F5..
  4. I had the same problem with an SB28...It is caused by static electricty. When this happened I removed the batteries from the flash and rubed them with a anti static cloth or just a hankie..This usually sloved the problem...Just leave the batteries out for awhile before renserting...This problem is not confined to SB 28.
  5. Ihave PS 6 and bought some manuals at Micro Center..I did not try to use everything it was capable of doing all at once....I learned a lot by using the manual on a "need to know" basis...It takes a long time. I was fortunate in having a grafic artist living next door that taught me a lot...
  6. While trying to download some120/130 pictures from D100 the pictures

for some reason were deleted from a Lexar 256 card. I previewed the

pictures and went to download them onto a disc. All pictures for

some reason had been deleted...I have followed this process many

times in the past without any problems...Does anyone have any ideas

what might have caused this..In the norm I normally download some

    50/75 shots without any problems..

  7. The F5 has a "custom setting" that will put the camera to sleep in about 3/5 seconds after a shot. The SB 28 flash will also go into a sleep mode. It is always ready to shoot in a nano-second. I aslo rewind my film manually when not in a hurry. This alone will save an immense amout of power. I normally can shoot over 65/70 rolls of 36 exposure film with changing batteries. I forget at times and leave the camera on for a day or two without noticeable loss of power.
  8. I find the 5700 to be a very good camera for the money...Many expect these moderate priced digitals to perform like a high profile SLR...If you do not want to be annoyed by these minor inconviences then be prepaired to shell out big bucks something in the D1 class. All the above seems to be inherent all lower priced digitals.<div>003wB0-9972884.JPG.1846e422ee8599966f93b7ea21c27c96.JPG</div>
  9. I have used a 5700 for some two or three months. I have found it to be a great digital camera..It has a super macro lens and very sharp..According to more reviews I have found it is the best digital in its class..I have been very pleased with it...It is very sturdy and well built.
  10. I probably chose Nikon for all of the above cited reasons and more..I have a F-5 and a N90...a SB28DX, SB 28 and SB 26 wtih a 24/120 and 28/200 lens...I am a big guy with rather large hands and probably unlike some of you I use a Stroboframe Press T bracket..I have never weighed it, I would venture to say it runs around four pound or more fully loaded..I love the F5..It is rugged, dependable and it never fails me...(My wife uses the N90)..Since my eyesight is not what it use to be I find the autofocus indespensible..I do not think there is a better flash system in the world...While other systems have their strong points, Nikon has it all, especially the F5.
  11. There are numerous areas along the Texas Coast that should meet your requirements. I think the best is around South Padre at Pt.Isabel which has very nice beaches, first class accomodations and restaurants. This part of Texas is reknown for birding. There are miles of good beach privacy. Matamoros, Mex. (Brownsville,Tx) is a short distance away if you care for something International. I reccomend Garcia's just across the bridge. Good food and you can drink the water, without fear of Montezuma's Revenge.
  12. Nikon has a system on one of their backs(i forget the model #)that will fire auto only when a moving object comes into a prefocused area. They are good for shooting wildlife, birds, etc. The backs are rather expensive though, but they do a lot of fancy stuff and are somewhat specialized equiptment. Probably MF is the best option.
  13. I do not understand why you want to soften the light. Why not just use flash compensation, if feel you have to much flash. Have you tried out the fresnel on the sb 28?I believe that is what it for, to spread and soften the flash.
  14. I just came back from Avery Island (Tabasco Sauce) down below Lafayette, La. in their Jungle Gardens. A great place for bird shooting. I was able to capture frame filling shots with a 28/200 Nikon of Great Blue Heron and White egrets. This place is a paradise for bird shooters and wildlife. There are Egrets where I play golf. You can get within fifteen or twenty feet of them. I also took an airboat tour into the Louisana swamps and got some rare close ups of alligators, nutria, snakes, mink . It was a place of unblieveable natural beauty of cypress tree gardens.
  15. Most all fifty states have some deer population. Why don't you ask the outdoor editor of you local newspaper. You know, the hunting - fishing guy? You can see a lot of them fom the road in parts of Texas. That is until the first shot is fired during hunting season. If you like antelope they are plenty of them in the Davis Mountain area around Ft. Stockton also some javalena, mountain lions, etc..
  16. No one can "fight mother nature"...I have had good results putting my camera in my car out side for awhile before I intend to use it. This usually works. In another couple of weeks you won't have to worry about it.
  17. I suggest you go to Texas DOT site..."www.dot.state.tx.us." It has numerous links. I am sorry to tell you there is not much in the way of nature photography in that part of Texas. Ft. Worth , about one hour west of Dallas has more to offer than Dallas. If you care anything about the Old West, go to Ft. Worth and to the Stockyards.
  18. Another something you might want to consider is Mt.St. Helens..Not much for beauty that Olympic and Ranier might offer..I went there about two years ago. It was a very rewarding experience spiritually and to also witness the aftermath of the power of nature. It is a challenge for any photographer.
  19. The articles I have found by Dan Smith on The Photo-Critique page(

linked to this page under'snazzy-new links') are some of the most

informative I have ever read..Reading his articles can give you a

greater insight about all types of photography and can answer a lot

of your questions. They have been most helpful to me..
